One thing that would be nice would being able to recon missions ahead of time so you know layout and rough enemy comp. Some setups where you can use environment kills are super powerful while being complete duds without said environment kills, some setups favor aoe clear, etc etc, good against droidekas, good against coil. Just tons of prep you could do if you knew what you were getting into.

Almost like the RNG is selecting your setup before you go. Although tbf I haven't run into a mission that couldn't be won due to setup so far.

Right now rocking 2 snipers with overwatch talents, the mando, a couple scouts to farm adv and just use mando going around doing tons of damage. 4th slot is flex but ususally run jai for execute but really anyone could work here. Honestly might just put another overwatch character here, like make trick soldier/scout and have him clear aoe.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The only downside would be the annoyance of switching out mods/utilities. This could be alleviated if they were just tech you researched that everyone had access to, instead of limited rng items.

I'm running Hawks as scout/scoundrel, recruit as sharpshooter/gunslinger (for extra crit mainly), Jae as medic/sharpshooter w/blaster rifle, and Tel-Rea. Works really well, but I feel the lack of aoe at times.

Ran into my first frustrating bug. At first the enemy turn ended and then it just sat there for minutes. I tried pressing every button combo I could think of, but its like the camera got stuck and wouldn't pan to the next step or whatever. Had to reload.

After that, got to the boss portion of the mission and game crashed.

Cool, cool

I had the same issue. The fight right before

this happened and had to reload my game.

Same, had my game stall out for about a minute after a turn ended. Camera stuck, couldn’t do anything, then right as I was about to close the program it snapped back to normal and the fight continued.
The game is good, but they need a bug/performance patch asap.

yeah i experienced that freeze as well a couple of time,

i really enjoy the game so far... cant rememner last time i played the whole week end morning n afternoon. Star war universe really fits well. My only grip is the building/research part of the game is not as deep as xcom, and game at normal difficulty is absurdly easier compared to xcom too. I still remember on xcom, missing or using the wrong attaack on the wrong enemy and poof to the unit.

Game is quite forgiving, u dont miss much, had 0 death so far, beside the guy at begginning, and wasnt even close to loose a battle. My setup is generally the countess (rly like her final shot skill, even tho it seem to be bugged and not working anymore after she back), trick with maxed melee/grenade/rocket (interchangable with the mandalorian). and the jedi perma in.

My guy is sniper with maxed overshot and self buff. Mandaloria is super useful in mission that require to move around alot, and it hilarious when u mange to dart n web 2 or 3 mobs in a cluster. Very powerful skill.

The
General Skywalker
missions are great. 👍

Medic buffs and heals are amazing.

As everyone noticed, Jae's execute is probably the best talent in the game.

Just unlocked multi-specialization. Seems like Assault + whatever is always good? Assault gets a move bonus, melee, and a fast charging AOE. Stacking that special move, with weapon move, move items, etc. and you can walk across the map almost.

Just me or are sniper rifles underpowered? The 2 AP really hurts them.

Nah. Just in early game. If you want to sacrifice a bit of range you can use a blaster rifle early on.

Is that operator’s name cut off at the bottom? What’s her name in your campaign? Curious if they have a static roster of recruits with regard to face/name and then just mix up the talents/specs.

And re: rifle v long, it’s a range thing primarily, but the long edges out the rifle on damage/crit damage by a handful. Rifle just stops being able to attack at some range, probably 30m or so? Not sure if long has a range cap or not.

I stuck with the sniper rifle - made my sniper character do a secondary in scoundrel since it lets you ignore armor as a passive. They're basically an overwatch/assist terror.

I enjoyed the mission on Bespin when you get to use that special unit - I basically spent their entire turn tossing units off the edge of the platform when you have to diffuse the bombs. Made that last mission 100x easier than the previous ones even with you having a godmode unit

I made her and a few others and added them to the character pool before I started, but the rest probably are just randomly generated. She's the only one of my premades I ended up using except for a heavy to try out the class. Starting my second run now and I'm just gonna use the story guys this time. I feel it's better to focus on leveling them, since some missions require them and also don't have to deal with switching items. Plus I rarely used the crit talent, and I find the basic talents to be kinda weak.

I was just saying early on during the easier missions you could probably get by with a blaster rifle on your sniper, if you want to take 2 shots per turn instead of one. I never found range itself to be much of an issue, since I have Jae as medic/sharpshooter with blaster rifle, and usually have her in zoned in, too. Hmmm, just checked and it seems one of the things that Hard and Expert does is reduce player weapon ranges. That's kinda weird, but would definitely make the longarm more necessary. I tend to play more close up anyway, to avoid LoS issues, especially with Call for Backup. And, with the retarded unlimited melee retaliation, distance doesn't matter much, lol.

There's a six squad mod on nexus that I wanna try out, but it'll probably make the game super easy, since it's not balanced for that. Having a six man with a droid would be overkill. One of the main things that made Xcom difficult was that your soldiers could get one or two shot and be gone, and a single would would removed a soldier for weeks. Zcom you have a lot more hp padding, have to be downed 3 times in a single mission, and the medbay only takes one cycle.

What’s the point of recruits really? I mean, why are they even there as a variety option when a single recruit can be respected however you want as well as their appearance completely changed? Each recruit is fully customizable so why have 6 or so “different” on s available with the available pool refreshing every cycle? It it just a role play thing? I grabbed 2 random recruits and set them up with thievery and espionage. They don’t do anything but run investigations for free intel and credit bonuses. I’m super early game but still sticking to my 4 story-driven characters or whatever the premades are called (MC, Kabb, Trick, and Jae so far)

I had to doublecheck to make sure because of what you said, but thievery and espionage only proc from combat missions, not intel operations.

In theory it lets you customize your squad a bit more, but I agree I end up using either the story/special characters (because they have unique perks/abilities) or stuff like astromechs.

Again it kind of comes down to the limited squad size - why would I bring a random recruit when I can bring a jedi or a mando?

In xcom my buddies and I would always make each other and roll as a squad. When someone died we would get a text. Sorry bro but you didn't make it. Was just something fun to do. Doing the same thing with this otherwise would just be using the story characters.

I mean you don’t have to use any story characters outside a few mandatory missions - you could roll with 100% custom since you can customize the appearance of the mercs you hire

Just started the game and finished the first mission. Looks like they have an interesting system. Cover seems like it matters less than in XCOM.

I don't know if I will get as excited about this as XCOM because I find the XCOM story more compelling since I have sort of given up on Star Wars after all of the Disney bullshit. 60 minutes of play time. I'll probably play one more mission to confirm it is a keeper.

By the way, after hearing about performance issues, I installed this patch. I had zero issues with performance and my PC has a few years on it.

I would disagree - cover in this seems a bit more complex. First is the sturdiness of the cover - cover types matter because some of it falls quickly to blaster fire. Xcom mostly had a lot of indestructible cover not counting explosives or super high powered projectiles. The game also seems to take into account angle of fire a lot more and seems much more unforgiving on elevation and 3D dimensions of your cover - in xcom if you were behind high cover you typically got a big defense boost unless you were flanked, but in this the high cover protection is overall much smaller in terms of the angle

Also the first couple missions are tutorial - I thought the story was more interesting once you see the coil introduced proper and you get introduced to the Jedi character
