Watched it last night, I have no idea what to think about it. Finn’s entire side quest was completely pointless. Absolutely nothing came of that. Rose saves Finn from saving everybody at the mining facility... congrats on dooming your allies? The entire movie is effectively a 18 hour boring space chase scene? The rebel’s plan was to abandon ship because they thought the first order wouldn’t see or track smaller ships? They can track light speed which is supposedly impossible but can’t see a couple of ships leave another ship? Did they finish the first draft of the script and thought, “nailed it!”?

They should have had them doing multiple light speed jumps where they get a short breather before the first order locates them and arrives, that way you can do things like have Rose/Finn get to a random nearby planet on an early jump then later have the small ships hide before the first order show up again.

As I'm sure has been mentioned previously in the disection of this horror show, Battlestar Galactica did this in like their second or third episode and it was brilliantly done. I wouldn't even have cared if this was ripped off wholesale in TLJ, anything would have been better than that nonsensical, tensionless farce we did get.

I'm just ready for a completely separate, fresh story arc, get completely away from the originals, move on, redefine my expectations.... well, redefine my expectations in a positive way, because technically they have redefined them, just negatively. I really enjoyed Force Awakens, TLJ just utterly fell flat for me as a main trilogy movie. I'd have fewer complaints if it was a one off, there are good parts and moments to the movie, but as part of the bigger picture it doesn't work with the originals, it doesn't follow TWA well, and it clashes with itself atmospherically and tonally throughout. I don't have a lot of hopes for 9, but if the last one is a great film, it will make 8 stand out all the more as a pile of shit.
