For seasons 1-3, I agree. The 1st season intro was appropriate. The second season seemed like they wanted to go "blacker" with an even more soulful rendition. The third season, while perhaps more contemporary, seemed a bit overworked.

I liked the premise. I liked the show more when it approached near/quasi scientific methodology, such as near randomized trials if I remember correctly. It lost me when it began testing idioms; although, polishing a turd was somewhat amusing.

Of course not. I am merely stating that, onsomeoccasions, the commentary comes off as forced, unnatural, or incongruent for the character or the situation. It seems like some people think that some criticism is the same as hating the show.

The first season, in particular, has numerous "soliloquies" or other odd moments pontificating on they way things are. I'm not saying they're bad, but it stands out in an odd, unnatural way. The Wire seems to do this less than a show such as Boss, but it seems more like hand-holding the viewer...

Idras Elba's acting does make the show much better.

A fair response, but I did qualify my response in saying "now." I have a hard time believing that it tapped into the zeitgeist of 2002, but, as you point out, its contemporaries were underwhelming by comparison. I pulled up the2002 Golden Globesand it's rather depressing what shows won what.
