Some one said my post was incorrect but I was unable to do the specialization quest until after the warden story. Always showed as busy. Once the quest was done I could do it. Just happened last night and I was trying to figure out why it had been locked out for so long.

YMMV.

You need the right adviser depending on your main characters class to do your specialization quest. You can do the specialization quest after you get to Skyhold and do the initial Skyhold customization things (go to your blacksmith area you can customize Skyhold from there) then head to the war table and look for the quest "Specializations for the Inquisitor". The adviser you need is Josephine for Mage, Cullen for Warrior and Lelianna for Rogue. To unlock specializations for your companions just load into another world zone with that companion and go to their powers. You should see the new specialization.

Notes:
You cannot change your specialization later. It is a permanent choice so save before making it if you want to try out different specializations before committing.
Unlocking the "Specializations for the Inquisitor" appears to happen if you just complete 1 quest of any type after getting to Skyhold. Talking to Solas or another companion and triggering a cutscene did it for some. I was able to get it to appear without ever leaving Skyhold when I first got there by just changing some of my Skyhold Customization stuff and completing that quest.
You have to be level 10.

From what I've read, you don't actually need to be 10, someone mentionned getting it at lvl 8 when he got to skyhold regardless.

Trying to avoid reading this thread to avoid spoilers but was is the consensus on this game. Was holding out after the DA2 debacle so wanted to give it a few weeks before diving in.

Are you sure? The amulet of power you buy for 300 gold from Vendors that reset your spell upgrade points don't void your choices? Cuz they work on the companions specialization points, but then again, companions don't have multiple specialization trees. It also worked in DA2 with the potions that you got in the Black Market (Deluxe edition).

But seriously, considering how annoying Steam has gotten lately with their intrusive ads, I'm actually starting to like Origin.

It resets your skill points, it doesn't let you choose another spec. Once you've picked a spec, you have to stick with it, so make sure to save first so if you don't like your spec you can go back. I personally just ran a few side quests with templar and champion on my tank to figure out what I wanted. On my rogue I went straight tempest, it just looked a lot more fun, and it was.

On that note, Thousand Cuts, if you want a challenge, don't use it. Ability is pure broken OP. You can one shot any boss in the game with it. Including endgame dragons. If you're an archer you might not one shot the dragons(but still do 50-75%), but if you're melee you will one shot them with proper setup.

I mean the barrage of popups when you log on, or exit a game, or anything.

Pyros, without thousand cuts, is tempest better than assassin you think for ranger? Definitely not going to use that either way, looks absurd. Fire flask sounds OP as shit too though.

I don't know about better and I didn't play archer, but I liked the flasks a lot, they're fun to use. Frost is probably less useful on ranged but still good if you get something on you(it's great for melee rogue because it freezes on contact, so you can run up to a mob, freeze it, then shatter it with twin fangs and if the mob isn't resistant to cold that's like 2-3k more damage, or 5k if it's a rage demon), but the other 2 flasks are really cool. I'd say put your items on Sera and Cole and go fight stuff for like 5minutes and see which you prefer.

The class is really good, and thousand cuts conceptually is a nice skill, but the numbers on it are just retarded. It should do like 50%, maybe 75% weapon damage per hit. It does 300% for 38hits, with a ring that's 400% x38, I have no idea how anyone could have made the skill and not thought "well that's dumb". The fact you can one shot anything in the game with it is mind boggling. Then again the entire endgame balance is terrible, the tier3 crafting stuff is way stronger than what's necessary, doesn't matter which class you play, once you start crafting tier3 stuff, stuff becomes easy mode press A for awesome even on nightmare.

Hidden Blades does 7 hits for 300% damage, and it's not even a focus ability.

Assassin is pretty good, I can do like 40000 damage in a few seconds with Mark of Death + Shadow Strike + Hidden Blades.
