Well that answers that. Just realized part of the answer was right in front of me. Once prefixes cannot be changed is crafted you can just scour to remove the suffixes. Seems like it will end up being craft a chaos res mod, then Aug chaos, remove the craft, then remove chaos and repeat as needed.
