One of the bigger guilds came from EVE. Like TMAC says you get access to a resource, and also higher tier tradeskill stations from the land. That resource is also used in higher teir gear as well.

VT was extremely easy before the changes as well. A lot of the guilds with Quarm kills were probably splitting VT at some point. Even, @a_skeleton_02 guild was splitting VT, and I'm not even sure they got a legit solo RC kill.
