not necessarily. there were 2 fights i had in bg3 so far (still act 1) where hold person and silence fundamentally altered the combat scenario and changed it from being an uphill battle to a fun sledding opportunity. yes, there are times when it's just more efficient to just outright kill...

i skimmed that reddit post, but it all seemed spot on. "the best" dnd anything is generally going to be pretty subjective. but there are a couple of generalized things you want to keep in mind. CC spells like hold person, charm, hideous laughter, banish, etc are all DC based. which means that...

for monk stuff, larian said that any weapon you are proficient in is now considered a monk weapon. so, gith are naturally proficient in greatswords, which means if you play a gith monk, greatswords are now monk weapons (which is kind of insane, honestly, but it's a lot more straightforward so i...

this is a pretty typical response from someone who just simply doesn't understand addiction. there are vast physical differences in the brain of someone with a substance use problem and someone who's never drank or used drugs. this isn't hippy dippy feel good "i feel like they just can't help...

i just wanted to add my 2 cents about exp from dialogue. i've noticed almost every single time that i've resolved an encounter through dialogue that my party has gotten like 75-150xp depending on the severity of the encounter. killing regular enemies gives you like 15-30xp (75xp or so for big...

yeah i agree. i initially didn't quite "get" him, but i like the take of him still being brilliant while being a fairly metal. i mean... listen, i know gene hackman is kind of the gold standard for luthor, but i think michael rosenbaum is the definitive lex luthor with clancy brown coming in a...

this is how you know drug addicts aren't really in control of their own faculties. in ANY OTHER industry, if someone uses a product and they die, anyone who's used or even thought about using that product gets all up in arms about it, suing left and right. if someone dies of drug use, every...

if you're casters are worthless without using spells, you aren't using cantrips right. the entire point of cantrips are so that your casters don't have to blow all their spells every single encounter. don't think of firebolt as a spell, think of it as a bow that your casters are actually good at.

ah. i missed that you were a barb, so that makes sense. i also was thinking that you got more spell slots between 11 and 12, but you're right, you don't.

Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Games

oh, yeah, i meant to mention that. casters benefit the least from multiclassing because they miss out on higher level spells. if you're going to lvl 20 you can take a dip here and there but since the lvl cap is 12, multiclassing basically forces you to miss lvl 6 spells. also, in tabletop...

so, here's my thing. if you're going to cleric, then cleric. i USUALLY make her a life cleric, but i'm using myself (vengeance pally), karlach, shadowheart and gale, so i don't really need her as a frontline fighter. i just gave her some good cantrips and have her heal when i need it, otherwise...

i haven't noticed with bg3, but in table top you need a certain amount of strength to even wear heavy armor (15 strength for plate, for example). i THINK that'd be fine, just pay attention that when you multiclass, you lose some of the proficiency's that the class you are multiclassing into...

the gith can be involved anytime the illithids are, so it's not just planescape. there was a point in time when the illithid basically ruled all the planes but the gith rose up and were able to fight them to near extinction. the gith queen made a pact with tiamat (because tiamat hated illithids...

the dual wielder feat exists almost exclusively for strength based dual wielding. for dex based, taking 2 points in dex is better (unless you already have 20 dex) because you get the same +1 to AC as the dual wielder feat, +1 to damage to ALL dex weapons (which will bring the average damage of a...

yeah, they did some sideways stuff with spells in this game. in theory it's supposed to streamline stuff but the reality is that it allows you to do things like that. it defines class spells in only the most loosest of terms. on that topic, i appreciate that they are wanting people to not feel...

Yes, hold person is an amazing spell. A lot of people use casters as nukers, which they absolutely can be (in my weekly game I'm a storm sorc 8, tempest cleric 2, my teammates are a homebrewed battle master and a monk and pretty much every round i do triple the damage of the other two), but...

In my game, yes. Laezel told me she was going to taste me "one of these nights" and that was only a few hours in. After the second night at camp, literally as I entered the druid Grove. Shadowheart is a little different since her whole thing is about keeping info close to the chest but she...

yeah that's definitely a possibility. just sneaking causes people to get upset. they'll start saying things like "Don't do that." if you keep it up, even if you don't commit any crimes it can start a riot. i mean, especially in the grove. that place is a powder keg waiting to go off. it's not a...

i'm playing a vengeance pally and while yes, there is often the dialogue options for your typical white knight, there are PLENTY of paladin specific options that are cold, uncaring, judgmental and bordering on murderhobo. don't get caught up in the old alignment system, there aren't even any...

yeah, it's one thing to save scum on something like pathfinder where a failed encounter can basically just mean game over, but bg3 is designed from the ground up to run just like a table top game. you don't pass or fail encounters, you make decisions and go where that leads you. i was watching a...

depending on the race you chose, yeah sort of. certain races are relatively new to the baldur's gate area, so they don't get treated very well. everyone hates drow and duergar, people are generally pretty wary around dragonborn and half orcs, and people tend to be pretty upfront about what they...

alignment plays an extremely small part of dnd 5e, basically just for the rp'ers who like it. any of the paladin oaths can be played as evil, though my favorite for "ruthless" paladin isn't in the game, oath of conquest. oath of conquest is basically tailor made to let you play as darth vader...

In the pnp version, half orc zerkers are pretty great, but they are a little over specialized because the racials and zerkers abilities overlap a lot. So it does make those specific abilities really strong. For example, all barbs get brutal critical which add an extra weapon dice to crits, and...

oathbreakers aren't even evil, really. they just aren't lawful in the normal paladin sense. they still have their goals, they just aren't tied to the tenants of their original oath. so a vengeance paladin might become an oathbreaker because he thinks his methods have become too cruel.

i don't know if i'd go that far, but 5e's rules are significantly less complex by design, to let people focus on roleplaying. whether or not it's better really depends on the DM and whether or not they take advantage of that fact. all the rules larian added are completely allowable in 5e...

that's the thing, certain cleric domains are designed to be in melee, some are designed to be more casters. the biggest tipoff is the lvl 8 ability. it'll either add a d8 to melee or add wisdom modifier to cantrips. also whether or not they get heavy armor when they pick their domain. some...
