Unless you're playing at 4k I think the 4090/4080 is a little bit of overkill. Only scenario would be if you have a 240hz monitor and play a twitch skill game like Apex Legends. Just like previous generations the sweet spot will be a 4060ti at 1440p.

To reiterate: if anyone here has an rtx 4090 and is using the extension cable, all you need to do to avoid damage is make sure it is plugged all the way in. The cable can look like it is snug but isn't, more so than other power cables.
