It's a poor time by his standards and he ran a technically very bad race. I guess he is not too concerned about that since he won anyway! Still the story of the day is Wayde van Niekerk who, apparently, is the first guy to go under 10s for 100m and under 20s for 200m while running a 400m (not...

World record in the final of the men's 400m! Michael Johnson's mark of 43"18 that held since 1999 got erased by the South African Wayde van Niekerk in a mind blowing 43"03!! He was one of the favorites, but after a botched semi-final he ended on lane 8, so he made the race blind! I guess it...

The Big Four is still at work: Murray for the Gold (defending his title) over Del Potro. You have to wonder about the best of five format in the final after the schedule of the week, because both guys were spent in the third set already. That might also be related to the number of rallies where...

After checking a play by play of the bronze medal match. Nishikori lead 6-2 5-2 and was at deuce on his serve, so he served twice for the match and both time he got broken without even leading in these service games! Nice mental effort to be able to win the thirds set after losing the 2nd in...

So yeah the russians Makarova and Vesnina won the gold in women's double (Safarova and Strycova for the bronze) In a match I could not see Nishikori won the bronze in men's single over Nadal (the japanese served for it in the 2nd set, but got broken, got break chances right after but did not...

In Men's Basketball, the USA blew past the two weaker teams of their group, but, after that, won by 10 over Australia, 3 over Serbia and 3 over France. They are obviously still the heavy favorites, but they better apply themselves if they don't want a bad surprise.

They're not the favorites! I think the swiss pair played together before in Fed Cup but I could not find when (so that must be like one or twice ages ago) and Bacsinszky plays some double here and there but with average results. On the other hand the russian pair always play together and won...

45 winners in 3 sets, great length on ground strokes, amazing backhand cross-court, great shape on the forehand (attacking the open court with deep and heavily lifted balls that pushed Kerber wide AND back), able to surprise with short slices, ready to step forward and attack anything short...

That being said, Del Potro doing well after he beat Djokovic is half a surprise... Monica Puig in the gold medal match though? That's several orders of magnitudes more surprising... oh and as I write this it seems Kerber is not 100% as she hobbles after points...

It was a bit of a pant crapping contest near the end, as between 4-4 and 6-5 there was a streak of 9 points against serve or something similar. If Del Potro wins the Gold, he will have beaten Djokovic, Nadal and Murray (who made light work of Nishikori earlier in the day - the Japanese possibly...

A rerolled thread that got forgotten it seems.... Anyway, I just played the fourth act of Kentucky Route Zero and that game remains brilliantly singular, even if it is not my favorite release. My two main gripes with this one are: 1) The structure: as you go down the Echo river there are as...

There is a romanian tennis player who will not sleep so well for a while: Mergea. Meh. Bellucci broke back in the 2nd set when Nadal was serving for it, but then could not hold. He then had the first opportunities in the decider, but could not convert, as he could not convert those he got once he got behind. Nadal through (and he will play the double's final too!).

I saw a dozen of these Judo fights and I feel like 8 of them finished with 0-0 and a guy having more penalties for lack of combativeness than the other. That's very underwhelming. Couldn't they get rid of these penalties and just fight until someone actually scores? I am pretty sure I also never...

It's a case where the athlete is caught between the hammer and the anvil.
