Unless they changed the way that ring works it's almost useless because it doesn't mitigate the hit that lowers your health across the threshold ,so your survival has nothing to do with the ring. And another hit is generally gonna kill you, defense boost or not. That's been my finding at least.

For the one on the rooftops: lurehim to the ladder, climb up and lob firebombs at him. For the one near the beginning of the area: run away when he transforms, stick to the curved staircase that leads up to him. Play hit and run, lobbing firebombs at him. Firebomb the fuck out of them...

Haven't gotten them to drop a damn thing. Game is a lot more stingy on drops than its prececesors and I don't wanna pump luck.

Killing that fucker the first time yields some good upgrade mats. He respawns and no longer drops nice shit, so make sure to just backstab the asshole before he can transform after the first kill. Or kill it with firebombs.

The art direction in this game is maybe the best I've ever seen. Every area so far is striking.

Make sure to kill those passive acolytes in the first area. Just had one drop a titanite shard for me. Seems like a really rare drop - that was my first - but still.

Seems like souls required for leveling are lower as well, though. Making it through tutorial, having killed the boss and the lizard and all the trash on the way I had like 7k souls, which got me probably 7 levels.

I cannot get the timing down for ripostes - never got even one off in the tutorial area, and I died several times trying. Regretted it once somebody here said you don't get NPC invaded when not in ember form

I definitely should've. Checked the rates on reddit beforehand and the results are all over the place. A lot of people are getting her after 8 pulls, whereas others are summoning 30-40 times.

Yeah, I usually farmed out Iron Keep because the xp was insane, but that's about it for vanilla. After a few assrapings from the Fume Knight I farmed out the giants before him.
