Yeah I have some serious reservations too about this new controller. Especially the no analog-sticks. Mostly because I've never experienced a haptic-feedback device that was worth a shit so I'm skeptical. Still I will totally reserve final judgement until I've used it myself. But everything...

    Neverwinter: PC

Finally downloaded this the other night; rolled a half-elf cleric and a halfling rogue. Cleric is 15something running with a friend, and the rogue I just started. Having fun so far when I want an action-rpg break. Kinda enjoying the combat more than GW2.., maybe its the better defined roles...

Scott Hartsman returns to Trion, takes CEO role

You're probably right about the Defiance thing, but iirc Hartsman was in charge of producing Storm Legion, which flopped sales-wise, and was totally set against F2P which has done nothing but revitalize Rift. I think Scott is a good producer and businessman; he can make a game on time, on...

Scott Hartsman returns to Trion, takes CEO role

Incoming Rift NextT announcement.. Good for him though. Never did get a good vibe from Lars Butler. He was pretty cocky.

One of the guilds I'm in has been providing feedback and testing for the game. Zenimax approached Gaiscioch early on since they're one of those really well organized and run PvP guilds that developers really like to get involved with. They were really big into WAR and before that DAoC. I usually...

It didn't take off, because they sold out to Intel for $$$. And all Intel wanted was the engine, a software component to their hardware endeavors at the time- Larrabee, which failed spectacularly by the way. So they trashed the game, and shelved the engine. The only game which licensed and...

I agree with you that constructive criticism and discussion will not hinder the process. I'll even contribute: remove universal double-jump entirely, or except as an ability gained from a magical item or skill.

If SoE caves in to the MMO community and gives us EQ3 instead, then I can safely say this genre is totally and permanently fucked. We'll be stuck with the same old tired Wow- excuse me, EQ clones from here on out. With EQN we're getting something progressive; risks are being taken, some...

except in group content that requires those different roles / skills / classes from multiple players. You can't be everything at once. I totally get it that some people don't want the ability to be different classes on the same toon, but I'm sure most people have tons of alts also, and that's...

I think 40 classes is probably a bit of a gimmick, being that their skill sets are so small, you could take GenericMeleeClass01 and chop it up into 3-4 EQN classes. And while I don't prefer 10x hotbars full of nearly-identical skills, I think 4 (8 total with weapon slots) is a bit thin. I'm...

I also hate over-the-top asian action style combat.. So I never tried it until it went F2P. And I was honestly surprised at how good the combat itself was. It took a little while to get the feel for it, especially since you were committed to certain attacks once you executed them. But it had a...

Anything player made will be compensated. If another player buys your tower to add to their castle, you'll be compensated. From what I understand its real cash, not station cash. Some creations are unmoderated, and some require CS approval. Since Landmark is a content creation tool for EQN...

I've been thinking of starting up a new toon in VG or EQII, will probably hit that up tonight. And since EQN won't be out for at least a year, we've still got Wildstar and TESO both of which I'll no doubt try, though I doubt I'll get invested in either. Plenty of time to tool around in other...

I agree with you if heals are restricted only to yourself. From what I understand all classes DPS, but they also all have at least one utility role. I would imagine clerics, priests, etc. have utility spells which can throw out heals, along with healing spells from your wand-of-healing or...

Well what immediately comes to mind, simply because its what they already showed, was putting up an ice-wall, or destroying the bridge so they can't reach your casters. Using the constructible/destructable terrain. The AI will have some sort of aggro table just to determine who it is...

There is tanking, but they clearly don't mean that in the traditional sense. Aggro is an awful mechanic used as a crutch for weak AI. If there is some degree of tanking using advanced utility skills or other metrics besides an aggro table I would consider that a step forward in the genre.

The NPC AI in TESO appears to be a bit more complex than most MMO's, which is to its credit. However, without playing it and only seeing it, there still isn't much to leave me excited. Sorry I haven't kept up with this game in a while, does it feature traditional trinity roles?

SoEmote and facial expressions are great for RP'ing, which still garners a rather large part of the MMO community. Only reason I log into LoTRO anymore is to satisfy the RP itch from time to time which it does better than any other MMO.

Yep Storybricks allows for NPCs to react differently to you based on all sorts of criteria, including whats in your inventory, what you are wearing, your past actions, etc. So in your example, if you found his lost family heirloom while out adventuring and you walk in town to vendor it, he...

The problem with traditional Holy trinity is mob-ai is dumb as shit. As Mughal pointed out, its basically non-existent. And an aggro-mechanic is also a band-aid. The problem with GW2 combat is it just wasn't fun or interesting in a group setting. IDK what the answer is, and I'm not expecting...

No offense, but that is a terrible idea. Last thing the devs need to do is listen to the community on core design decisions, especially ones who want the game to look act and behave more like EQII- a terrible wow clone. Devs caving into the vocal community has ruined many an MMO. I hope, for...

Tiers are the new levels, but they also implied any tier would be able to work together, sorry its late I forget the source. But no need for a mentoring-type system. Also, tiers are defined by much more than XP, instead a number of different factors, XP, gear, quests, possibly achievements?

Don't forget it seems as if player attributes will modify our class abilities, and they will be unique per player. So each class / class combination may play a bit differently depending on all the modifiers- gear, attributes, tier, etc. The example given was +str to a warrior might make him...
