The Big Bad Console Thread - Sway your Station with an Xboner !

4 Bones for the PS4 is impressive. Mark Cerny did a hell of a job on the hardware side to help put it at that price point.

Live is even more ridiculous. Hiding apps behind a paywall shouldn't be supported.

TESO wouldn't be possible on Xbone as Microsoft has no interest in support an MMO business model and sharing profits on their system whether it be F2P, Subscription, or whatever else.

PS+ for Multiplayer sucks, especially when so many upcoming games have multiplayer as an integral component. Box will have to say 'PS+ needed to play.' Sorry, but there's no way to spin it as if its OK- its not.

IIRC Red 5 Studios closed their Chinese office over four years ago. This was the studio that was actually assigned to creating most of the content / new assets, etc. Couple that with retooling the game from scratch every few months and you will begin to understand why its in the shape it is...

    The Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls Lore certainly supports PvP, but the Lore was originally written around the games; the games weren't written (until now with the MMO) around the Lore. So the prevailing First-Person, Sandbox, Single-player, PvE-RPG gameplay experience is what defines Elder Scrolls.

Sounds like his way to publicly reduce expectations for a game that isn't coming together fully as an MMO.

I thought they said 'actual real life gameplay, etc' at SoE Live... whereas at E3 they can throw us a couple screenshots or if their feeling frisky a 30 second CGI trailer of a dude stabbing skeletons with a sword while saying its coming to PS4 as well.

It'll definitely be on PS4 in addition to PC, no question.

Having your barely funded, completely mismanaged game that was once already saved from the brink of collapse in perpetual beta is a sure-fire recipe for success, I tell ya.

If you think the venom is bad now, you should have seen it back in 2010 right before The9 bought them out on the verge of collapse! The contempt and scorn for Kern was quite thick. The development of the game from day 1 has always been a disaster, from the engine choice on up to the management.

I finally knew Curt was full of shit when he continually threatened to leave over UT's antics as well as people using the word 'retarded' all the time (his son has Aspergers or something similar and he was very sensitive to that word), yet every time Curt would come back after about a week of...

Venturebeat: Blizzard delays unannounced MMO until 2016, resets whole project

Blizzard doesn't have the business agility to compete well going forward in the modern video game industry. I have no doubt that Titan gameplay was modeled for a market that is declined or doesn't exist any longer. The genre is moving on, even from WoW albeit slowly. They will also need to...

The solution will be to retool the 1-20 zones that are finished into a much longer grind. Then say that the game is awesome because it only has 20 meaningful levels and not 80 quick boring ones. Months later, release zones 20-25 as the first x-pac.

Pretty much! Think hanging out in Goldshire while doing all the Darkmoon Faire shit ramped up to 1000, tied into facebook, and built around a real money auction house interspersed with lots of instanced third person shooter matches in between.

I still remember the forums lighting up with threads like 'WTF Y CANT I TURN IN MY QUESTS PLZ HALP'. Clearly Trion caved in and appeased the retards who couldn't handle even a little bit of deviation from the hand-holding quest model. The question is why? They had something potentially...

I think a lot of people get confused by the word engine anyways. In the case of Hero Engine, the entire product encompassed a client-side engine renderer, a server-side engine and scripting language, as well as a comprehensive suite of development tools. Throw in various middle-ware products...

Venturebeat: Blizzard delays unannounced MMO until 2016, resets whole project

I remember Mark Kern stating in an interview once that he and Blizzard had parted ways because they had fundamentally different ideas in which direction to take the next MMO. So don't expect Titan to be anything like Firefall. Although the rumor I believe was Titan was half TPS/FPS and half...

    The Elder Scrolls Online

Its an industry standard practice to take an existing engine, tweak it a bit, and call it an entire "new" engine. Everybody does it; Bethesda said that the Creation Engine was all-new but it turned out to be just a heavily iterated version of the same old Gamebryo. Infinity Ward said their new...

The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), however, ruled in July that the trading of "used" software licenses is legal and that the author of such software cannot oppose any resale. While the CJEU's case is not exactly the same as the current litigation against Valve, the VZVB reckons...

I'm certainly not against a multitasking gaming console that is also a fantastic media center and runs a bunch of cool apps. The problem, for me at least, has always been how pro or anti consumer something is. I personally don't want my every action, word and input spied upon, all my personal...

Fair enough, especially on this board. But your average Joe on the street is going to get pretty incensed thinking they have the right to resale their games and not understanding why they freely can't.

Microsoft is taking the Big Brother approach to doing business. They always have, really, unless the market (or governments) have forced them to be more friendly. Coercion, anti-consumer strong-arming, tight rigid control over the market using monopolistic tactics, etc is the model and they're...

Video games are sold as a software license and as such they have every right to make it a non-transferrable license if they so wish. The only thing that makes it a legal grey area is that they can't restrict ownership and resale of physical media. But in other realms of software licensing...

I'd assume tons of valuable user-data metrics, an anti-consumer but pro-provider ecosystem that helps lock down their out-dated and dying industry model, and finally lots of plain old cash.

Just from my limited understanding of the animation world, I've got to agree with Denaut's explanation. Animation really is extremely resource intensive. Another possible explanation for "animation pass" is much like other art assets, animators often render their work in high definition, a...
