NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

I assume that's your EQ description? So basically a NG'fied version of that. Same name?

Thanks, Vithe. Yeah, so far it seems nothing is on fire.

Well, it's insanely powerful. Giving this item to a level 1 would be such a huge advantage and heavily distort any semblance of a level playing field. I could possibly lower it a bit.

Yeah, speaking of I'm still figuring out how Kickstarter works. Sending out the surveys now. I have no idea why it doesn't just let you send them in advance. Such a waste of time.

Dude, who is that? He is off to the races.

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

Everything is going as expected! The legendary items are made after the surveys are filled out. You should see a survey on Kickstarter asking details like what kind of class you want it made for.

Well, we did it. 5K+... sick ! I'm also sitting here at the 11th hour coding in some account names before this goes live. Hopefully everything doesn't break as a result. lol! This way we can use account names in future features... like if chat gets implemented.

I'll see what I can do before launch. I might be able to enable a nuclear delete along with allowing only one living character with that name. Not perfect, but it'd be better than the current design.
  9. M

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

Yep, definitely room for improvement. I'll have to reconsider the design to allow for more flexibility.

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

I could make deletes completely permanent, but then recovering data in cases of accidents/malicious deletes becomes problematic. Maybe I could make that optional at some point, too. Like a nuclear delete button lol.

One idea is to have an account name... then you could message something like /w *maelfyn hey dude. That's something that could be added later if people really demanded it.

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

If I solve that problem it creates other problems. Like how would you chat with each other? Unique names in EQ made it easy to chat with others. Every game I've seen without unique names had shitty social environments.

When the campaign finishes early Friday morning (at about 2:30 EST), Kickstarter will give me access to all backers' email addresses. I just have to add those to a white list. Once that is done all backers that pledged $20 or more will be able to create an account and login. At that time I will...

Yep, easily. Just put it in the bank in town. Btw all: you can dismiss all UI windows by clicking the window header now. Not the most intuitive thing ever, but it works.

I've posted it almost everywhere it's relevant including places it wasn't really relevant. I've been through quite a gauntlet of spammer accusations, shadow bans, etc. lol. It seems like people hate you if you are promoting it yourself, but in this case Pharmakos posted here and it seemed to...

Appreciate the support guys. This campaign would be dead in the water without this forum.

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

Weird, I wasn't getting thread update email notifications. Anyway, yeah, we're down to about $300 to go and I keep getting random guys canceling on me with no explanation. I figure it will still make it, but the cancels sting. In any case I've coded up a lot of the reward stuff.

Sometimes you can find weird work-arounds to get to the page. Like they block youtube at work, but I always get around it by finding alternate links to it. Maybe try navigating through the forums? I don't entirely understand how those blocking programs work, but they're not bullet-proof in my...

Alright, alright. I'll fix it for real this time.

Just tested the session timeout thing. I was logged in forever and it didn't boot me. Should be good now.

Thought about @'ing Smedley. He might be too high profile and he wouldn't give a fuck. He's too busy with that z1n1 project. I don't know what Brad is up to after the failed Pantheon KS. It'd probably be more effective to target lower profile EQ team members. I wonder if they even feel the same...

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

Yeah it's pretty much the equivalent of loading up on pure MF gear and killing newbie mobs in Tristram in Diablo 2. It's perfectly okay to do that as a strategy if you want to load up on uniques. This could be a great strategy for safely getting through the game on hardcore mode.

Good catch. I fixed this in 0-8-77.

Test server gents: Let me know if you notice a session expiration from now on. I updated a setting and I believe it shouldn't happen anymore.

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

Thanks for the support! We gon' get thar. #1 Tracking sucks. I need to redesign it. Enough said. In fact a few of the racials are just really unimaginative like Wood Elf and Half Elf. #2 So you can only hide out of combat. You must not leave combat in order to keep your chain going. The...

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

Bro, the best part is when you log out and then log into another computer. That shit blew my mind the first time I did that (the first time after years of it being 100% local play).
  30. M

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

Thanks for mentioning this. I'll look into making the session never expire. There's really no reason to do that for a game like this.
  31. M

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

lol... who grinds to level 98 in a test season?
  32. M

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

Also noticed the combo leaderboard database query was not quite right. Fixed now, though.
  33. M

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

Oh, okay. I think you found a bug already. I don't see Paladin Vitality on the combos leaderboard. Gonna fix this...
  34. M

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

lol... that's a really good combo for a level 10 SK. You're mixed in with level 30s and 40s on the leaderboard.
  35. M

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

Yeah, it is intentional. I think skeleton pets' fireballs are almost overpowered for this reason. In fact I am probably going to remove that skill from them right now. They didn't have it in classic EQ anyway. Only the enemy mobs did that.
  36. M

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

You can certainly have a test account, but I will definitely wipe it on April 17th. Everyone server account starts from scratch that day. It wouldn't make sense to launch season 1 with a guy at level 98 on the leaderboard. PM me your email address.

I don't even know how it gets categorized. I think it's some determination made by google or something like that.
