NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

Unfortunately it's mega huge 1280x768. At one point I did make it auto scale downward based on window size, but it was a solution with some quirks. At some point I may re-scale this game for something like 1024x690. I didn't anticipate so many people disliking the size. But if I do that there'll...

I'm launching the Kickstarter on March 18th. Each week I will do a let's play. Each video will show me playing through each act. I'm not sure which class I'll use. I'm thinking wizard.

Some classes just blossom later than others. Well, some blossom less than others, as well. It's not a perfectly balanced game, but it offers a lot of choices.

In nightmare you can be double ambushed and in hell you can be tripled ambushed (3 mobs). Halflings are better at running than any other race (passive racial bonus). And finding 40% run speed boots wouldn't be a bad idea.

Hardcore mode always increases the stakes. Maybe I should do a let's play of my own game on hardcore.

The leaderboard for local play was removed. Right now it's just the Test Season data. It'll be changed to "Season 1" leaderboard on April 20th when the server accounts launch.

That's because game data forwww.nevergrind.comandnevergrind.comare totally separate. Not my design exactly. That's just how browser's local storage works. Heads up: I will be forcing nevergrind.com starting on April 20th, the same day server accounts will be available.

Are you sure? When I turn on combat spam and the log I see it hit 3 times.

This was just patched moments ago. Try reloading and try again. If it doesn't work in patch 0-8-11 just let me know.

Thanks! Yeah, the new artwork (backgrounds and mobs) are completely done, though the artist is continuing to improve what exists. I won't be putting it in the game until the server accounts are ready.

Hatorade: these have been fixed. Nice catch on the halfling ranger skill as it was only affecting that race/class combination.

The audio will be re-enabled in the paid version. I had like 260 gigs of data transfer with Amazon S3 in a few weeks and it was starting to cost a lot for a game with no revenue stream.

I can't get into the details right now, but I will say I have hired a talented artist to draw original art work for all of the zones and monsters/characters. I was also contacted by someone in the VG industry who wants to collaborate, but that was only possibly if I converted NG into its own IP...

The quest bug should be fixed now. Was out of town for a wedding, so I couldn't update more quickly.

Is there no quality control or testing in this game? Consider it fixed.

This is a holy grail of sorts for me. Due to the design of this game, implementing a pause feature would be very difficult. But it is possible. It would just require an extraordinary amount of effort. This is probably in the minority of games that is not designed using a game loop. It's...

Hey, thanks for mentioning this. It's a problem with the new swappable button panel. It's a nice feature, but it came with a lot of bugs. Thankfully, this was just resolved, so if you refresh you shouldn't have this problem anymore. And thank you!

That's rather observant of you, yes. You can only confront named mobs in a chain. This is to prevent people from clicking "Search Battle" endlessly until they find a rare mob. Btw, expect drop rates to go down slightly when the game is in version 1.0. The game will be more difficult on nightmare...

This is possibly a bug, but probably not if it doesn't happen repeatedly in a short amount of time. Sometimes I find that browsers just need to be restarted, even when using perfectly designed websites. Like, for example, it could be a bug if you cast fireball and all of the orange particles...

I'm not sure how your hotkeys for bank, inventory, etc stopped working. Might have been some kind of cascading bug impact, but they normally work. I did some serious bug fixins tonight, so I'll upload now and see what is still broken. kek..

It's basically like a frenzy barbarian in Diablo 2. Every primary-hand auto attack gets an extra 5 swings. This does not apply to successful double attacks from your primary hand. Many classes have this mechanic... bard, "melee" enchanter, shaman, ranger, even "battle" cleric.

The helm thing... yes they drop way too early. I should fix this, lol. Been blowing it off for about a year. I could fix this by just making unique helms drop at later levels. The unique drop table for helmets was the first one I did, so naturally it was the worst designed. Re: ghost mobs...

NeverGrind: EQ inspired, browser-based single player RPG

This used to be in the game, but it got disabled since it seemed too redundant and it got ridiculously spammy with some talents and weapon combinations. I could possibly make it an option though.

I also found a bug with the fire pet. Burst of Flame made them derail and stop attacking. Fixed next update.

Cool, thanks for the feedback and I hear you on the fancy name thing. Games have kind of drifted toward these ridiculous adjectives for magical items, but in the classic days it was just bronze this and leather that. Pummel should work on any target. It's just activated by stun attacks as a...

Magicians get a few ways to restore their health at higher levels. At level 20 you get Reclaim Elements which is basically drains health from your pet. At level 38 you get another spell called Altered State which can be used to heal, also. At level 13 you get very good damage mitigation from...

Thanks, friend. I appreciate the compliment! Now, there is a chance you can move your data to another computer, but it will require some determination and know-how. I have never done it, but it's apparently possible. Check this thread for details. It's also browser dependent: NeverGrind...

Once accounts are in you can take your character from your iPad to your desktop to your laptop without a problem. Only local settings will not save such as button positions, option settings, etc...
