Yeah, for PotD the experience is lower upon completing 10/20/30/40, iirc, and 41-50 and 51+ are the "max" possible reward they give out for completion of the boss.

Tesseract Turret is awesome, but if you're doing a map that requires breaking and entering, the shard that disables buildings and massively slows enemies is pretty much GG defense.
