    Dexter

It ends with an ambiguous conversation between Dexter and Vogel and as she leaves we realize we are in an insane asylum and the staff and patients are all familiar faces. Vogel has a short chat with someone looking like La Guerta to the tune of "After all these years we're making progress: these...

    Sharknado (2013)

Well... what is generally used as the origin of Z are Ed Wood's movies (the archetype being Plan 9 From Outer Space - 1959). It is debatable though because, as far as we know, Ed Wood was trying to make great movies with no money and the end results are more accidents due to his... let's say...

    Sharknado (2013)

It's not really a question of quality of the end result, but more the nature of the object. A B movie is, historically, the second movie in a double-bill. From there, things are correlated: less money (aka time) to make it, so less star power and a greater reliance on formulas (aka genre). So...

I look at that release and release window games list for the PS4 on IGN and something is odd: Knack (which is Cerny's game) is the only japanese game of the bunch. Capcom? Bandai Namco? Sega? Konami? Square Enix? Nowhere to be seen. I suspect that the list will get expended as the Tokyo Game...

    Godzilla (2014)

The first Godzilla is a very serious (and actually very good) movie about the dangers of misused science and the organisation in time of catastrophe. Most of the sequels are more campy and about giant monsters fighting each others more than anything. The exception being the very strange...

    Godzilla (2014)

That a little too far fetched for my taste! But maybe they'll rewrite the origin story and have Godzilla be awaken by an earthquake or something (but then... what is the story about?). Bah... maybe it's too be understood at a more abstract level: not as a Godzilla made out of destructed...

    Godzilla (2014)

Nice visual work, but at a symbolic level it is flawed: destruction does not create Godzilla, it's the other way around!

Considering just about all mainstream news outlet did a paper or three on the PS4 and Xbox One and that consumer electronics stores as well as cultural goods stores around here have pre-order signs, I am pretty sure mainstreamers are well aware of the existence of the machines.

    Only God Forgives- Ryan Gosling

For reference, I have seen all of Wong Kar Wai, most of John Woo (NB: John Woo 'early stuff' is mostly comedy - he made 15 movies before A Better Tomorrow) and most of Johnnie To (when he directs that is, because I doubt even him saw most of what he produced) and this movie is still a poorly...

    The Newsroom S2

The problem is not that the rom-com elements are bad (in fact Alison Pill and Emily Mortimer playing manic/clumsy is very amusing), the problem is that there is a pretty broad offer for rom-com on TV and a very narrow one for media/politics fiction, so, in The Newsroom, every minute spent on...

The Wire: Greatest Show Ever Made

I agree that Treme felt like it was missing at least one dramatic arc that gave a sense to where it was going, but in a way it serves the portrait of a city that does not know where it is going. It works more a sociological study than a fiction, but the study is fascinating in its own right.
