Paladin advantages were general and thus more obvious for a given generic encounter. However encounters are not generic, they vary widely, and sometimes shaman are better. Their advantages are usually more subtle than something like reduced threat on the whole raid.

The only flaw in this plan is that the horde guild is going to facefuck the alliance guild.

It's certainly more difficult, but the advantage of instantly cleansing fear on a raid group can outweigh Fear Ward sometimes. People overblow the Alliance PVE advantage. I only thought it was absolute bullshit on Nef, and that was because of Drakonids.
