120 mph is almost triple the kinetic energy of 74 mph. If they're breaking femurs at 74, a diver is turning into soup at terminal velocity.

    Death and... Taxes.

There are estimated tax calculators you can use for this. If the money doesn't clear until Q3/4 you can probably also get away with saying that you have unevenly distributed income and they'll waive the underpayment penalty. I have a consulting business with very lumpy cash flows and I do this...

I've never seen a drywall anchor that didn't eventually fail. I don't trust them for anything more structural than thermostats. Studs or nothing. Pictures just need nails and hanging brackets. I've got a 45-lbs mirror hanging on a three-nail bracket and it's survived earthquakes.

    Investing General Discussion

This is a fair point. While this is an awful strategy from our perspective, asset growth is not necessarily the goal of a late-stage retiree. In my 70's and 80's I would definitely forego returns to be 100% bulletproof sure that I'd have enough money to last until I die. While the S&P has been...

I initially got into furniture making because I had this problem and couldn't get an affordable, sturdy wooden bed frame that didn't have the mattress at either shin or chest height. Now after a five (edit: shit, eight? I'm old) years of learning on other projects, making one that was total...

I buy $500 12-inch foam mattresses and replace them every ~6-10 years as they start to develop valleys. My wife and I both have lumbar issues and they totally went away after moving from sprung beds. If you know someone handy with fabric you can cut up an upholster the retired mattresses and...

Just eyeballing that, I think you're going to want a brace on those top corners. I don't see anything in that structure that is going to support racking forces. Those joist hangers are going to loosen over time.

    What vehicle do you drive?

I bought a Model Y this spring and was charging at 10A until I got the 240V plug installed. It took maybe 12 hours to recharge 50% of the battery, which as you say is totally doable overnight if you plug in when you get home. As it stands, on the 240V/30A it charges in four hours, which we only...
