Hmm...ratonga? Go full Clan Eshin with them? Iksar were the only race besides humans to have monks, so they could be going eastern with them also. And frankly, I find that a more appropriate question than "should there be ninjas?". They're already talking about having assassins as a class...

The baffling thing about that poll, and the thing that kept me from answering an unequivocal "no", is that they list ninjas as a "modern" concept. Makes you wonder just what their definition of modern is; is it anything that's either geographically or chronologically separated from medieval...

*shrugs*They probably won't do anything to stop you from interfering like that. They've said slowing or stopping progress is an option, it's just that RCs don't have a definitive 'fail' state, but you could theoretically keep an RC in a constant 'in progress' state.

Rally Calls are supposed to be one time events that sorta move the story forward; so yeah, they're durable, unless a future Rally Call, say, results in a city we built previously being destroyed, but it's not like the Call reverts to a zero state after a timer counts down, or anything.

My bet would be that both barbarians and erudites will be human cultures, rather than different races. Barbarians will be an old human culture that will peel off of Qeynos and head north to build Halas. As for the erudites, we may actually see the birth of the erudite movement occur in game...

Probably because they make a good contrast to the human, as opposed to dwarves or elves, which are more just humans with different proportions.

One of the panels said something about appearance customization in it, something along the lines of, "if you want a plate bikini, you can do that; if you want to be a fully armored tank, you can do that too". They just haven't described the mechanism for it yet, and just how far they'll let...

I also wonder just how much that might be true for the kerran. It's the face that people have been ripping on, and that's the one part of the character we're guaranteed to be able to alter in character creation. Could be that everyone's complaints can be answered by just moving a few sliders...

*shrugs*I've always been a big lore guy, and I'm more intrigued with the reimagining of the lore than I am anything else. So far, it looks like it's going to have many of the story elements that make the game "Everquest" to me, just rearranged in a new way that'll bring a sense of exploration...

For that matter, the day/night cycle video they showed for Ashfang, while not pitch black, did at least seem dark enough that torches would be useful, even if they aren't a requirement.

*chuckles*To put the number of abilities issue into perspective, a reasonable estimate of the number of abilities a class had in EQ2 would be ~60-70 (not counting Fireball rank I, Fireball rank II, etc as separate spells), and there's now, what, 25 classes now? So that's somewhere between...

On the subject of race/class restrictions, here's a system that seems reasonable to me: 1. Starting class selection is restricted by class. 2. At SOE Live, they mentioned the possibility of having classes analogous to the Dwarven Defender from DnD, if they do that, then obviously such...

    Patrick Rothfuss Kingkiller Chronicles

Oh, Kvothe is completely Mary-Sue, there's no argument there. But I feel like that's sorta supposed to be the point, with the whole idea that he's a living legend who dropped off the map to tend bar, and the reader getting to learn why. You'd never recommend that an author build their...

Less so than it was when they first announced it, I think. Most people seemed to have settled into a "let's see if they can pull off their ai" stance. Or it could just be that 70% of the upset posts were Qwerty, and with him gone the overall perception in the thread leans more towards...

My personal theory continues to be that they didn't list Inny, Cazic, and Rallos as gods for roughly the same reason why you wouldn't list Satan as a god when talking about Christianity. I figure that they'll be the demons of the Seraph religion, with perhaps weird cults worshipping them...

Fun fact: around the time eq2 was being launched, a guy on the official forums did a visual analysis of a bunch of the races. It turns out, the ratongas weren't actually modeled on rats at all; looking at their heads, the ratongas are a one-to-one recreation of squirrels. Looking at that fan...

Eh, at this point I'm 50-50 on whether or not kobolds are actually playable. Could've just been Naggy's personal minion, or something. And technically the original EQ box had pets on it, not just random mobs (the troll character was a shadowknight).

Well, they were just a caste of the elves at the time of the fiction on the website, which is ~500 years before present day EQN, and, for that matter, before they actually became dark elves. Aside from that, yeah, it looks like there are just 'elves', with high elf and wood elf being cultural...

You've brought up lack of downtime a few times here, but have they actually said anything about what downtime will look like? I don't recall it coming up in any of the panel videos. Wouldn't be terribly surprised if it turns out to be short downtime, and we're certainly not going back to the...

Don't know yet. However, I had a thought I'd like to toss out: just because characters in-game don't worship Inny and Cazic as gods doesn't mean they don't fear them as demons. No clue if that's actually the route they're going here, but I wouldn't rule it out yet.

Ya know, if they're going to stick with no-curse ogres, I actually like EQN's version of them, it's definitely better than EQ1 and 2's depiction of uncursed ogres. Rather than fat ogres, I personally think it would be better to push for body sliders for all races, and get fat ogres that way...

Off their options, I'm like 50-50 on whether to go with lore-based restrictions, or allowing people to choose whatever classes, but with penalties. Maybe do both, with races only being outright banned from a class if the combination makes no sense whatsoever, with penalties for those classes...

On the subject of ogres, I feel like they could take care of a lot of the complaints if character customization was robust enough to allow for different body types within the same race. Just checked reddit, and the sped up speech at the beginning is actually different from the teaser. Most of it is a joke about speedos (yes, really), but they do throw in another quip about permadeath at the end. Starting to wonder if this really is just another running joke, or something more.

For loot? From what little they showed us, I was getting the impression that gear would be almost the exact opposite. Since they can't fall back on just adding +5 strength to an item and calling it a day, they're almost going to have to come up with items with more memorable effects, which...
