It's a matter of principle at this point. I'm not buying a game on Steam only to have it run through Uplay. Small as it is, not buying their games is my protest at their asinine anti-consumer behaviour.

I have a dream that one day Ubisoft will drop Uplay and I will be able to go back and play the backlog of games I've missed from them like Black Flag and Child of Light.

I live 10 minutes walk from Akihabara, and I'm there quite often. There's a huge culture of buying games new then selling them back to the store, so you can always pick up a used copy, but they aren't usually discounted much. New copies for example may be 6000 yen, and a used copy will be 5000...
