I almost spit coffee out of my nose this morning when I saw this trend on Facebook. Vince McMahon: Require Roman Reigns to remove his ILLEGAL vest during the course of WWE competition. Pretty sure it's a horrible troll job. At least, for the sake of humanity, I hope it is.

5GHz effectively halves your range, so you'd have better luck with 2.4GHz over that kind of distance. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that limits you to N, and with that kind of distance, you'd be hard pressed to get any speed on the high end of N.

    Virtualization (VMware, VirtualBox, Hyper-V, ...)

Yep. This is one thing that 2012 R2 has going for it. No shared storage? Yes please. Before this feature, I wouldn't have touched Hyper-V in any business environment.

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

With you on this one. I don't even get why anyone would use Notes unless they seriously can't migrate off of their old databases because of some ancient content that they can't convert to some other format. Like, you know, Notepad, because Notepad is better than Domino. I'm in much the same...

Hey, I recognize that thread. Hah. We're about to launch into a cross-site migration activity using vMotion over a WAN ourselves, so it'll be interesting to see if you find anything out here.

    Virtualization (VMware, VirtualBox, Hyper-V, ...)

MTU could easily cause a 90% performance drop, sure, but you'd notice it everywhere, and you'd be able to see it easily. Just attach a Fluke or something like it (a laptop with Wireshark will do) to the interface where the vMotion traffic is, and if you're being inundated with fragmentation...

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

Why, what's up? I currently manage vCenter etc. pretty much all day. Hyper-V isn't a bad thing for labs/SMB. It doesn't really scale to large businesses all that well, at least, not on its own. Add SCVMM and you're talking a different story. But then again, this is kind of the same thing as...

And, dare I suggest, a passable garbage collector that you don't have to write yourself.

May users have a personal thread in the rickshaw?

Should be easy enough just to change the code that generates the alerts to ignore all alerts from posts in a certain forum. I can't see how it wouldn't be. Edit: Or, sort of along the same lines as Picasso's suggestion, remove it from members of the RRP group only. That, also, shouldn't be too...

Oh, please. I don't care if you know who I am. This isn't high school. I love how he's managed to rustle you so effectively, though.

May users have a personal thread in the rickshaw?

No, not quite. Your views are intractable, so there's really no point in having any kind of discussion with you. At least, not on this subject. So, I'm done trying. Have a good day, sir, and may your ignore button never wither. All things are technically possible. Well, maybe not all things...

May users have a personal thread in the rickshaw?

Why not simply stop seeing it as "punishment" and start seeing it as "quarantine"? They want to post all day in the shaw? Let them. Let them shit up every single post in there. Let them scream until they're blue in the face. In there, and nowhere else, and that's pretty damn effective, no? If...

You seem to be confusing "having a conversation" with "desperately flailing". That's cool, though, it happens all the time on the internet.

May users have a personal thread in the rickshaw?

Either that or hold a new election for Amod every couple weeks. Tanoomba seemed to keep most of his posts confined to his Amod thread for a while there.

Yeah, you can. Just... don't... read... that... thread. Emphasis for effect.

May users have a personal thread in the rickshaw?

I think you'll find that everyone's definition of "serially toxic" is somewhat different around these parts. That's why we have the capacity to choose not to react to things without actually hiding them from our overly sensitive eyes. If we can't manage to do that (like my serious issue with...

  21. Alkorin

May users have a personal thread in the rickshaw?

So let them live there. Again, I don't see the problem. Hence, the yes vote. If they're shitting all over everyone's posts all day, shaw them forever and let them live there the rest of their days. Whatever makes them "happy". In quotes, because I don't believe either of them have the capacity...

May users have a personal thread in the rickshaw?

Neither? I haven't read his posts. I don't read his posts. I suggest you do the same if they rustle you that much. Be the change you want to see in the world, Hodj.

Hell yeah. Bonus points if it actually looks like a hockey arena scoreboard. You'll probably run out of room pretty quickly, though.
  24. Alkorin

May users have a personal thread in the rickshaw?

Okay, that's great, but that doesn't answer my question. How is being locked in the Rickshaw considered a "win"? They can post in there even if they aren't infracted, so they're on the losing end of this, unless you think that Tanoomba is somehow going to quiet down when he isn't shawed?
  25. Alkorin

How do they win if they're confined to shitposting in a place where no one cares?

We use SCCM 2007 right now. Really not sure how they're doing what as I'm not a part of the group that does desktop engineering, but I know a bunch of people who are. I'll ask them and see if they're actually doing something interesting or if they just haven't figured this shit out yet (which is...

May users have a personal thread in the rickshaw?

This poll is a step in the wrong direction. That said, voted yes. If people want to shitpost, and want to do it until they're infracted and have nowhere else to turn, RR is custom built for them. Edit - Clarifying my statement: It's a step in the wrong direction because it's entirely...

    Windows 10

I'm clearly missing something here. I'll have to look into it further, I guess. We are (apparently) running the LTSB version here and we are by no means a small business (over 100K PCs). I'm curious as to how/why this is happening if all it is is a deferral option for sets of new patches, so...

Got a good laugh out of that. Thanks. Why wouldn't you guys use LTSB? Ring updates are way too buggy.

It would probably require a fair amount of reconfiguration on the VoIP device. Do you have that kind of access to it? If it's from your telco, probably not.
  33. Alkorin

    Routers & Other Networking Stuff

What, like, using a VoIP router as a telephony device without passing other traffic through it? Yes, but why? You'd be better off using it as both so that you can have more reliable QoS on your phone calls.

Ah, yep, that's probably a different panel per meter, then. You're right, it likely won't work unless these things are resilient enough to be able to pair up all the way up through to the common utility feed into your place. It's possible but I'm as doubtful as you are. Hey, might as well try...

Different circuit won't matter as long as it's on the same panel (we might just be speaking in slightly different terms here). I have mine going across breakers and it works fine.

Ethernet over power line? Don't know if that's cheaper than the requisite 50 eurobucks, though. Works well for me at my place. I used it to extend the physical LAN out to a dead spot and put a wifi router there. Edit: Something like this. Keep in mind that it doesn't mention this directly...

    Routers & Other Networking Stuff

If it's wireless, don't even bother troubleshooting if your connection is otherwise stable. Wireless is subject to latency for a hundred different reasons, most of which aren't solvable. Sounds like you're connected by Ethernet, though, so: 1. Is your router set to do any IDS or firewalling? 2...

Oh, definitely not the plan, and it wouldn't work anyway. Government jobs are iron clad safe up here. Union-backed and you have to fuck up hardcore to be let go, so unless they are literally threatening my life, they will be around for good. Basically, if this ends up happening the way I'm...

I can't see how there's anything wrong with playing hardball if you know that you're being taken advantage of. If they're willing to pay you substantially more for the job you're currently doing, you're either a rock star at your job, or you're being bent over. Either way, no one should really...

So, guys. I've been trying for a promotion for a while. Bit of a rigorous process in government. I wrote the exam, got into a candidate pool (that's how government job selection works up here most of the time), and now it looks like it's going to happen, finally, 6+ years after I passed the...
