Go for winged knight halberd or gundyrs. Both have godlike reach and real damage. Gundyrs has probably my favorite weapon style in the game as well with it's big charge in to spin slash move.

Yea hyperarmor is good, but the difference between 10 poise and 30 poise for how useful hyperarmor is seems to be almost nothing. All that really matters is whether you started your attack animation soon enough.

Profane greatsword, where have you been all my life <3 Like ~630 AR with 40 str/dex, it can self buff, and the moveset is about as good as it gets for an ultra.

Exile has big damage for sure, but it's heavy as fuck and much, much shorter than something like the Zwei. It's also not an ultra so you lose that extra bonus stagger effect against a lot of enemies.

It might become worth it for a mega str build, like 50+, but at my 35str/35dex it's just plain worse than dark sword and lothric knights sword.

Shields are fine for normal enemy clearing but are essentially useless in I think every boss fight I've done so far.

It's also a fuckload harder than base DS2, so be prepared for that.

Both the water and poison swamps have waist deep water yea. Crabs are easiest to fight from directly in front as they will mostly either use their water gun or giant double claw smash, both of which are easy to avoid and let you stab them in underbelly for real damage instead of their armor...
