    Moana (2016)

Polys make pretty good rugby players. I played in a conference with all poly teams (except for the one I was on) and we got slaughtered. Anyone recommend this movie?

    Split (2017)

I chose this over Patriot Day because I grew up in the 508 and Marky Mark is a terrible representation of Eastern Massachusetts, and I made a mistake. I have anxiety and usually I can skate through a horror/thriller movie no problem. This was not one of them.

    John Wick: Chapter Two (2017)

I am calling it right now. I will end up liking that 2 minute video more than the sequel. I have zero faith in Hollywood.

Did they really think that monster truck CGI horse shit was going to make money? Been watching old movies on Netflix while job searching. Twelve O'Clock High - Solid 8/10 based on awesome story telling, character driven plot, and not being hardcore American propaganda while still being super...

Spectral - 7/10 (good action, strong male lead, cool technology, interesting concept, a little campy and heavy-handed with plot dialogue but it works). Sidenote: Netflix is the way of the future. Hollywood is a cemetery of empty plots waiting to be filled.

    The Sun Also Rises

I really don't think Hemingway ever tried to be popular. I think he used writing as a coping mechanism for the things that he wanted to do in life, but couldn't.

    Star Wars : Rogue One

I think they said that he believed in the Cause, or hated the Empire. I don't know. I saw this pretty buzzed and enjoyed it because I pictured it as a sci-fi war movie not a star wars movie.

    The Sun Also Rises

A Farewell to Arms is one of Hemingway's better novels. In my experience people either love him or hate him.

    Suicide Squad (2016)

This type of movie is what happens when you get a group of guys together who have too much money, inflated egos and the desire to make even more money by pumping their movies with fan service.

    Captain America: Civil War (2016)

I can agree to this. I liked the first few. But, these movies are like a modern, cinematic version of penny dreadfuls. Weird kids in highschools a hundred years from now are going to love them and everyone will wonder why.

The Writing Thread - Post Shit You've Written (And Criticize What's Posted)

What did you guys use to learn how to plot a story? I am having a lot of trouble seeing if I am able to increase the jeopardy of the Hero's goals as the story goes on.

    Foreign Languages

So, just a tip for anyone trying to learn a foreign language. If you can convince a friend, relative, spouse to learn with you then try to speak only in that language with them. Figure out; "What does that mean?" And "How do you say ____?" I used those two phrases more than anything else...

    Underworld: Blood Wars (2017)

I wish these movies would explore their setting a bit more. The medieval movie, and the flashbacks to the past were the best parts of any of these movies. The bullshit with the vampire chick and the half-breed super-being and their 2 on All war against the supernatural underworld was so...

    Peaky Blinders

That's kind of the writing. I think all of them start slow (season 3 sticks out for some reason). I think some of the female characters were thrown in to pull in female viewers. But, I'm not convinced there is anything wrong with that.

A Song of Ice and Fire - Book Spoilers Within

Yeah, I read most of the books when I was in high-school and thought they were really cool. Now that the show is out, and I don't have the same time to read door-stopping novels, I will admit that I have more of a desire to see the show's ending. And I don't think the last book will ever come...

    Peaky Blinders

Just re-watched all three seasons on Netflix over the last three days. I think they have really balanced the rise of the Shelby Family into power with still giving them enemies that threaten them. Also, I feel like Season 3 could have stood on it's own. It could have been it's own story, but...

Pokemans and how to catch them with your phone - friend codes in OP

There is a park about three blocks from my apartment that my roommate and I take his dog to. Multiple nodes spread out across about a half mile of young mothers, runners and neckbeards all playing Pokeman. Camping this spot is definitely boring. You get tons of the same Pokemans. So I started...

    The Witch (2015)

I really enjoyed this. I took a class on the history of New England witchcraft in college and how it was shaped by the economics of the Bay colony. A lot of what I studied showed up in this movie, and I was very impressed.

    What did you just read?

Read this one off of Composter's suggestion. It was interesting. I always like characters who do not really fit the Hero trope, and manage their goals in off-beat ways. One of the main characters of this story is very much like that, and reminded me of Tyrion Lannister without the self...

    Crazy Neighbors Thread

Got home at 1 in the morning yesterday. I work swing shift so this is normal. I live on the second floor and as I walked in, my roommate's dog loses it's shit and starts jumping around like a spazz. Neighbor from below walks upstairs and bangs on the door like he is trying to break in. He is...

I just read, "Waterloo: The History of Four Days, Three Armies and Three Battles," by Bernard Cornwell. Non-fiction history printed in September 2014, I actually listened to it through audible twice while I drove across the U.S.A. The book covers the entirety of the battle of waterloo, with...

I'm reading the March Upcountry series by David Weber and John Ringo. I've finished the first two, and I'm about halfway through the third. They're excellent. They have a heavy emphasis on problem solving, diplomacy, logistics and character development. Battles due happen, but it's not...

There's an irish pub called Dublin in the 6th district. It was my old haunt. They've got darts on the second floor in the back. Stay out of city center on a friday or saturday night. It's a shit-hole.
