You can raw dog frostblades all the way to red maps without too much issue - just make a hybrid ele claw for trinity and go nuts. I have no idea where all the weird doom and gloom about heatshiver is coming from other than the general malaise of the PoE reddit being full of butthurt 24/7.

You need the 40% freeze duration early on when your damage isn't great, but end up getting rid of it eventually cause you just don't need it. So for leaguestart you likely annoint for a while until you just no longer need it at all.
