The intent isn't to create cool images, but instead to do "research", but it's hard for a lay person like myself to understand how this research advances human technology. https://esawebb.org/news/archive/year/2023/ For example, in Webb maps surprisingly large plume jetting from Saturn’s moon...

    Cities Skylines II

but seriously I would be more likely to get City Skylines if there was a "tedious mode" where all actions came with some kind of cost. Traffic was slowed down by construction / upkeep, citizens were frustrated by rezoning, building took significant time, rebuilding took even more, etc.

    Cities Skylines II

Imagine a builder game where you have a "turn budget" that generates every real-world day based on how much of your city's taxes go to the govt construction budget, but you could buy Builder Bucks (tm) with USD and get extra turns!

    Cities Skylines II

Yep. I can't imagine getting into a new city builder unless it was fundamentally different than what I built decades ago with SimCity 2000. Biggest things I'd want is: 1. Multiplayer, either where my city could interact with another person's city, compete in some indirect way, or we could...

Note that the Raptor has a diameter of 1.3m. The RD-170 is 3.8m, no idea about the RD-171. The thrust to weight ratio of the Raptor is 143 and RD-171 is 84.84. They cram some 33 of these on their booster. http://www.astronautix.com/r/rd-171.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpaceX_Raptor I...

Science!! Fucking magnets, how do they work?

I'm guessing the data stops at different times for all the areas, I don't know why they would stop at USA in 2010. Even if the literacy was relatively saturated there is still a lot of study on basic literacy on the USA to draw from. I'd be interested in another chart showing higher-levels of...

Star Citizen Online - The search for more money

My conspiracy theory is that they are both spending much less $$$ than they claim and are receiving private investment to keep the dream afloat. There just isn't enough interest in the game to support the stats they publish. I don't have any data or experience to support the theory. I don't...

    Starfield - Fallout fallout that isn't ES6

I'd be proud of Bethesda if Starfisld had the character depth to have awkward lqbtq interactions. Typically the characters are too shallow for that and only have enough depth to move the plot forward.

I think there's just an immense cost to photorealistic humans that the industry hasn't commoditized yet. You see these really impressive demos Then you see an Unreal game where the human looks like, well, the default model in a sports game. Humans are really good at perceiving issues...

I literally don't know what the role is for the CMs in DPG. As far as I can tell their scope is to put out tone-deaf messages once a month, post patch notes and blithely respond to reports. Maybe they're active in a lot of games but it feels like about ~4 hours of work a week.

I want to be mean and call you a negative nancy trying to rain my hype parade but tbh Gamebryo is broke and old and Bethesda should've done something with the 50 years since Skyrim's release to put it out to pasture finally. Imagine a world where Bethesda ditched Gamebryo, built a new Creation...

AI: The Rise of the Machines... Or Just a Lot of Overhyped Chatbots?

""There was no heart and no soul," Heiderose Schmidt, 54, told the AP of the service. "The avatars showed no emotions at all, had no body language and were talking so fast and monotonously that it was very hard for me to concentrate on what they said."" Sounds about right.

    Andor

I did remember thinking the set designs and special effects on Andor were extremely good. Makes sense that they went hard on the budget to support it. To me the best part was the writing. The big budget scenes seemed like second-tier capstones around the plot in many cases. This scene is a bit...

    Starfield - Fallout fallout that isn't ES6

I've sunken thousands of hours into Mount and Blade / Bannerlord and the base gameplay of riding around a horse is still extremely compelling to me. It's that base gameplay that just doesn't draw me into space combat sims that I think is because they are missing the components you cite that...

    Starfield - Fallout fallout that isn't ES6

For me I don't think it needs everything, but a game that has everything, especially with optional components, is ideal. A big budget narrative and world-building makes the trading/base building simulation more enjoyable, but I just haven't been able to get into ED, X4/X4 etc. It's crazy that...

    Starfield - Fallout fallout that isn't ES6

Good. Space flight is one of the gameplay modalities that's ripe for a huge RPG. Getting it right is worth it and harder than shooting / melee / mage mechanics that have a ton of games to draw from for design (including fallout/ES games...) but are in an extremely crowded space. I grew up...

How do you find people to play games with/deal with woke guilds/etc?

Brother this website is a social media platform and has its own discord. Petulant mods have been around since cavemen have sat around a campfire deciding which hill to go forage berries and roots in the next day. I remember getting banned in IRC channels decades ago for the same shit this...

    Unreal Engine 4 (free!)

I haven't done any in-depth research but I don't think games like Dyson Sphere Program (Unity) Chorus (Unreal) Would exist if they chose to roll their own game engine on OpenGL/Vulcan/DirectX or whatever, unless they also had a massive developer team to support them. The question of why...

AI: The Rise of the Machines... Or Just a Lot of Overhyped Chatbots?

Another example of a sigmoid curve is battery density. This is more tractable because there are chemical limitations, where new chemical reactions may be developed to replace Li-on or someone makes an arc reactor or something, but otherwise there's only so much you can do...

AI: The Rise of the Machines... Or Just a Lot of Overhyped Chatbots?

Tech doesn't really follow a hockey stick. It's more like two hockey sticks where the top one is inverted. Or more specifically, a sigmoid curve. This curve naturally occurs due to physical limitations. Sometimes a new approach or material is discovered that allows the creation of an another...
