Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

it's funny how in so many game release, this moment would be lighting a game server on fire. But for Steam? Probably barely a blip in their activity.

If I beat Elden Ringer without a hacker 0day frying my northbridge by invading me and dropping a chromatic estus into a fire, then the game is too easy.

Yeah, after 100%ing this game I'm going to need a set of lore videos that will explain the lore in the order I was supposed to see the game content to minimize spoilers as I watch these videos.

I played Dark Souls when it came PC and had a total trash port. It was fine. Some stutter isn't a big deal. Plus, frame stutter in games is a great way to detect enemies coming close to the player, so it's actually a feature!!

wretch. I don't think the starting class matters that much. It's just the only decision any of us nerds can make before the game comes out so we're consternating over it.

Ash Lake is one of my all-time favorite zones from any game ever, partially because of the over-the-top soundtrack. You claw your way through an obnoxious tree level, finding unintuitive pathways that you are unrewarded by and kinda assume will be some lame dead-end, only to have the whole...

Looks cool, is the kind of game I get into. I'd want to know why I should play this over another run through Kenshi or Bannerlord though.

Interesting, I didn't really know spear was so easy in previous games, I just liked it because it's rare in gaming and really, because it makes sense as a weapon to fight giant monsters. I mean, if I had to fight a grizzly bear with any weapon, it'll be a spear. I think that's what happened in...

I think I did in DS2. In DS1 I used a spear. In DS3 I used .... a spear plus magic I think? I am kinda curious how well high level dark souls-like players are faring in elden ring. I'd be truly impressed by someone going in cold and beating the game with a low death count in the same way a lot...

    The Astronomy Thread

I agree, but at this point I don't view it as that much of a binary thing, which is great. So much of space flight to this point has been pinned on popularity fueling very expensive and narrowly scoped projects like Apollo, Perseverance or JWST. The ISS missions weren't narrowly scoped, which...

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

Yes it's coming out for pc. Combat in souls like games is very animation focused compared to most games. For the most part, once you memorize an enemy's moveset and have your timing down, you can clown them. Then you move onto the next enemy and have to learn their moveset again. Depending on...

Once they ramp up it'll be the biggest leap in space rocketry since Apollo. The projected orbit cost per kilogram will be so low we could pool our tucobux together and rickshaw the asshat 2027 winner into the moon. Oldspace won't even be competing in the same space.

This is really incredible. I'm not sure if it's good enough to want to listen to robotic versions of professional voice actors, but it's still really impressive.

Kinda turns the game into spreadsheet simulator though. To each their own but I really enjoyed dealing with the interruptions caused by the landscape. I never got into the aesthetic factory building, would rather use maya for that.

I don't know anything about the game but I'm planning on playing a spear wielding build if it exists. I generally eschew magic because it doesn't participate in what I think is the core of these games gameplay.

Which bosses? From what I recall, most bosses either have fairly single-threaded attacks or multi-attacks that, if split among multiple players, are trivial (ex: ornstein/smough).

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

from my experience it's bimodally distributed in terms of lethality. In other words, you either get some poor son of a bitch who is more clueless than a turtle on top of a fence post or you get some fashion souls monster who just wombo-combos the boss in ways you can't even begin to understand.

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

I bounce between offline and online. Online for the variety, offline for enjoying the game. I find dark souls pvp to be a joke and getting help with a boss is basically cheating, but it can break up the repetitive nature of dark souls games of memorizing movesets and terrain.

I'm a huge sucker for litrpg, it's triggers all my endorphins from a lifetime of competitive MMO without actually playing the game. It doesn't even need to be a good book, I'm listening to count of monte cristo now and can't wait till it's over so i can go back to some garbage litrpg...

OpenMW is pretty ridiculous. In addition to graphics you'll want some combination of gameplay mods to make it, well, more like Skyrim (or RPGs made this millennium). One interesting thing of note is that when you play MW you see how much effort it takes on the part of the writers to come up...

I kind of like the idea of creating these immutable waste assets. It's super rare in gaming to create items that simply can't be destroyed. Feels like some kind of anti-nuclear NIMBY ploy from the devs tho :D

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

Yeah, for me a big part of the fun of Dark Souls was treating it as a puzzle. Solving the puzzle by reading the solution online takes away a lot of the fun. But then after dying to some bullshit 10x in a row I'll probably googling "elden ring broken builds" and "elden ring cheatengine memory...

One thing I really enjoyed years ago was playing on the Mithrintia server (Home | Mithrintia) which is now defunct. They had an extremely active creative server that, when joining, limited your ability to place things to a small plot (50x50 iirc) that you needed to build something "decent" on...
