I think Valve has a real chance to masterstroke OVR here. If they sold VIVEs at a loss at like, $400 it'd be very hard not to cancel my pre-order. HTC doesn't have the spare cash to sell at a loss, but Valve does. Valve isn't that kind of business though. They just care that OVR sells their...

I don't think prices will come down. I think $600 will be the standard. At least $500. The tech will improve over the next five years, demanding the maintenence of that price. Once we get retina level display, eye tracking etc, it'll become commoditized.

I wasn't around for the betamax days, but you can rest assured that no matter who wins, the CV1 will be obsolete in a year or two. It's unlikely that the VIVE's first release will make it obsolete though.

There's basically four big VR systems that are either out or coming out: Gear VR: for your phone, not a direct competitor to the Rift. It's out and pretty good for what it is. PSVR: For the PS4, not a direct competitor to the Rift. It's not out yet. I expect it to be good, but without a...

    Oculus Rift

It's a huge issue and one of the large barriers to providing good user support and a wide library of easily usable games for the DK2. But it's a beta/developer version so that's to be expected. For the CV1, I expect the following: 1. The CV1 will work out of the box with a decent...

    Virtual Reality

That's a critical feature of VR / the rift, so I think you can expect that it will work with it. It's worked (and was broken) at different times with the DK2. One of the big hurdles with the DK1/2 was integration with the OS. They have to do very specific things to minimize the amount of latency...

Imagine if I said something like, "Hatorade's posts are so bad, only 25% of the population can understand anything he's saying.". But I include non-english speaking people in that. It'd be a meaningless number because only some 2 billion people in the world can speak passable english. It's...

Sounds about right. It's a super misleading number and techspot should be ashamed of the clickbait title. NVIDIA didn't say something as dumb as "1% of PCs will run this shit.". They said, "13 million will run it.". Then TechSpot looked at a different source that said, "Yeah there's about...

Came here to post that. Excellent news. I'm surprised he said it's ready to fire, I heard they were decommisioning it. Even if that means, "If we didn't take it apart and test it with great thoroughness we could have refired it" it'd still be great news.

SIDS scared the hell out of me. I always wonder how many of the ~2500 SIDS deaths a year were misattributed. IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

The best advice I give to people who are looking to code is to first find something they want that doesn't exist, then learn how to code it. Just learning to code gets old really fast for almost everyone, but the joy of making something cool is what gets you passed the tedious bullshit as a...

How does EVE allow you to patrol/defend your areas? The only game I know of that even attempted that really was Shadowbane where you could have NPC guards in your cities and the tracking system allowed you to see a massive distance. On our server we didn't let another group get a Commander...
