IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

I thought this was a decent video on the subject. I followed this guy's advice on how to set up a Github repo for portfolio purposes. I put up some of my more interesting CSC school projects as well as a couple of utility apps I've developed for work. It show cases a variety of concepts...

    Babylon 5

What's great about B5 is that you had a writer who planned the story from start to finish. Unlike most televisions series today where they start with a premise and just wing it from there (I'm looking at you, LOST).

    His Dark Materials

Way too harsh? I mean, I can't think of any show where I initially wasn't familiar with ANY of the characters yet cared deeply about them within 20 minutes? Come on.

    Rick and Morty

"God dammit! When did this shit become the default?"

    Babylon 5

By the way, have you guys ever watched Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning? It's a Star Trek and Babylon 5 fan made parody film. Special effects are surprisingly good. It's old now, came out back in 2005. But at the time the special effects were amazing. Humor is hit or miss.

    Babylon 5

Well, TNG used physical models (mostly?) and not CGI. Now look at Enterprise and that suffers the same as B5 in some regards. However, dude, it's not that bad. This is from season 2 and it's still completely watchable. HEY!

    Babylon 5

I thought season 3 and on-wards is pretty good. Only season 1 looked rough. They were using what? Amiga Video Toasters at the time.
  8. ShakyJake

    Babylon 5

I suppose. I'm not good at identifying literary devices, so to my limited intellect I felt it was fucking dumb. I was talking about Battle Star Galactica.
  9. ShakyJake

    Babylon 5

Sorry, I should have elaborated. It's not the religiosity that annoyed me, it's the fact that fucking robots who know who their creator is, and know that their genesis doesn't involve any kind of supernatural explanation. It would be like Data in Star Trek becoming all religious believing in...

    Babylon 5

Not for me. I never finished BSG. Watched 3 or so seasons and lost interest. Totally turned off when the Cylons got all religious.

    His Dark Materials

Yes, going by previous seasons should be sometime in January.

2 years later... the almost sad state of MMOs in the new era

I couldn't find an appropriate thread, as there doesn't appear to be a "Hey, I Got an Idea For a Game" thread. Having recently begun playing WoW Classic I realized I actually quite miss the Dungeon Finder feature. Yeah, I know, it destroys community, yada, yada...BUT as a casual player, which...

    The War of the Worlds

No, this one: War of the Worlds (TV Series 2019– ) - IMDb Pretty low score. Guess I won't bother.

The Paranormal, UFO's, and Mysteries of the Unknown

Well, if planets that have evolved complex life are super duder rare then, sure, I do see it as plausible that extraterrestrials would visit us. From a scientific perspective, there would be some very valuable data to collect.

The Paranormal, UFO's, and Mysteries of the Unknown

I was watching the latest PBS SpaceTime Why We Might Be Alone in the Universe and it got me wondering about the Drake equation: Has anyone ever solved this equation from the other side? In other words, let's assume that Earth is the only technological civilization in the galaxy. So, N = 1...

    His Dark Materials

I think the word "Starts" is the spoilery part. Anyway, I never read the books but saw the movie a few years back which was entirely forgettable. However, I thought this first episode was pretty darn good. Kept my attention at least. Production quality seems great -- CGI animals looked...

    The War of the Worlds

That shit still looks good. Has anyone watched the other War of the Worlds series? I have it downloaded but haven't had the time to check it out.

Look for a Nuget package named Cody.Fostura. It will embed assemblies as an application resource. In other words, you'll compile to a single.exe file.

Pretty sure that's not the same dude. Wish the Russian red head had a young clone. She was hot in that black tie.

Yeah, I've been noticing way more dicks than tits here lately. This is indeed a disturbing universe.

    World of Warcraft: Classic

I noticed that Questie(?) puts an icon next to the nameplate. So I'm wondering if it would be possible to parse combat info and place healing values there?

    Batwoman

I stopped watching all CW programming thanks to that shit. (Not that any of it was particularly good).

    The War of the Worlds

What the hell? There's a FOX series by the same name that takes place in current day Europe. Debuts next week.

Totally agree. You need to create something that's more complicated than the typical Todo demo app. Also, if you're learning a Javascript framework focus on one. Don't hop around trying different ones. Ultimately the concepts are similar across them all, but try to get reasonably competent...

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

You keep saying "we". You're right, we couldn't. But an alien species that exists on a different energy level (as in they perceive time on a much slower scale) most certainly could. 80,000 years to get to the nearest star is absurd to us but to something else that might equate to an hour.

    American Horror Story

"Satan satan satan satan" This is hilarious. And a nice mid-season twist. I'm really enjoying this season.

    Titans

    Same here. And Krypto!!!
  35. ShakyJake

    The Good Place

Really? I feel the series has been kinda shitty after season 1. Season 1 was brilliant but, as I've stated before, afterwards it felt like they didn't really have a plan of where to go with the story.
  36. ShakyJake

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

Yeah, from humanity's point of view...if we want to experience Star Trek, well, just create a virtual reality that DOES allow you to zip across the galaxy like in the show. Sure it's not real, but the sense of amazement and wonder will still be the same.
  37. ShakyJake

    Emergence

    Molly!
  38. ShakyJake

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

I think we'll discover that simple life is common, but intelligence is extremely rare. And if there does exist an advanced, intelligent civilization in our galaxy, it will be millions of years more advanced. But we're making the assumption that aliens would be similar to what we see in Star...

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

It's based on our current understanding of physics and evidence. There could be a big crunch but the evidence is that the universe's expansion is accelerating. And the universe isn't infinite. It's a finite region of space that's expanding.
  40. ShakyJake

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

Current theory is that it never "finishes". The universe will continue to expand forever, all matter will have decayed into elementary particles, and black holes will evaporate.
