"When Dmitry Argarkov was sent a letter offering him a credit card, he found the rates not to his liking. But he didn't throw the contract away or shred it. Instead, the 42-year-old from Voronezh, Russia, scanned it into his computer, altered the terms and sent it back to Tinkoff Credit Systems...
It seems like a great fit for both parties. Apparently Carmack is still tied to id software in some manner, presumably as a consultant, but most of his time is going to be spent at Occulus.

On a related note, after seeing the Dredd film I went on a nostalgia trip and started buying the Complete Case Files from Amazon, starting with the second volume (basically for Judge Cal), currently up to fifth (Apocalypse War). Good times.
I read that the first three books were written as one single volume, presumably almost 3,000 pages long. Some parts were done years ago as short stories, which could explain why it occasionally "jumps" from place to place and skips over potentially interesting incidents like trials and...
I've just finished re-reading both books. It's very well written (it reminds me of a more grown-up Wizard of Earthsea) but every 10 chapters is Kvothe hatching up some way of getting money, bumping into Denna no matter where in the world he happens to be, and then promptly losing both money and...
This one was in a big place out on an island somewhere. It seemed quite a long way out to link to the same Nether portal as mine, but that could just be the path back to spawn taking the long way round.
I made a portal but it linked to one already built in the Nether :P amusingly enough going back through took me to someone else's portal. It was a nice run back.
I'm a little hazy on how far apart in the Overworld portals need to be to generate their own Nether portals. Is it something like...
"World of Tanks developer Wargaming.net has bought the Total Annihilation and Master of Orion franchises from Atari, it has confirmed.
Both properties were bought following the Atari IP auction that closed last month. Wargaming beat Monday Night Combat developer Uber Entertainment to Total...
IIRC in Asherons Call at one point monsters could gain levels - although if no-one was about they would despawn. It would be something to see a boss level up after a wipe...
The Minor Illusion(?) spells was comedy gold. Turning yourself into a gold coin in the starting area and watching beggars try to pick you up; or turning yourself into a copy of the entrance to Neriak...
IIRC back when hell levels were in place they added corpse summoning to Necros to make them more group desirable, and they made all that cash back standing outside dungeons waiting for the unlucky train victims
If you have a day / night cycle that affects gameplay then it needs to be faster than the real world day / night cycle, otherwise some people are only going to be playing at night (or in the day). IIRC there was a village in WoW vanilla where the villagers turned into Werewolves at night, things...
Asherons Call had seasons and it did add to the atmosphere to log in towards the end of the year and see everything was covered in snow. Their graphics engine was weak in many respects but it did allow them to do some nice tricks with the textures; having the rivers turn red with blood for...
The stairs are from the castle / hall I have inside that arch. You can get up by going up the ladders in the wood houses and then just keep going up (there's two or three other ways in through "natural" caves and caverns, the arch is riddled with them, but I've temporarily blocked those off)...
There's clearly some friction between Alonso and Ferrari right now, with each side blaming the other for the drop in performance. It's probably just Alonso's way of reminding the team he has other options, and Red Bull would make the most sense for Alonso.
Vettel would obviously be very...
If we're talking about the sugar cane that someone planted all around my house then yeah, I did crop enough of it that there was some space to get out without having to go for a swim. There's plenty of room and water elsewhere for growing that - there's a pool of water about 10 seconds walk...
Wow I didn't realise just how much cash Kotick had stockpiled...

It seemed to me that the intention of the new server was to keep things smaller and to "blend in." If massive structures get ported across, I guess they'd have to be in some kind of separate area?
It's not exactly a new game ("best strategy game of the year 1984") but The Lords of Midnight has been ported to Windows (and Android and iOS too). The Android version is pure nostalgia heaven.

It should be pointed out that David Lynch has nothing to do with the extended edition, and has declined to release a Director's Cut. He basically washed his hands of the whole affair after being forced into making cuts. IIRC some copies of the film no longer have his name attached to it.
Dune looked fantastic but was a mess of a film otherwise, as you'd expect from something that got re-written seven times followed by the studio forcing Lynch to cut over an hour off the running time. And if David Lynch hadn't directed Dune, he was in the running for Return of the Jedi...
The problem is basically trust. Do you trust the people who are making these decisions? The Snowden case for me shows that you really can't trust them.
For example, last year the director of the NSA said that stories claiming they had millions of records on peoples communications was...
The saga of the Bolivian president's plane rolls on:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013...en-asylum-live
It's a very confusing picture. Austria says they looked and Snowden is not on board but the Bolivians say no-one was allowed onto the plane. The Bolivians and Austrians say France and...
I can't see them boarding the plane, that would be like going into an embassy, a precedent we don't want to set. They are probably trying to find a new route home. I don't think France or Portugal will be getting any Christmas cards this year from Bolivia.
He could be on his way out of Russia - but if so, he might have problems:
"Bolivian President Evo Morales's plane has been diverted to Austria amid suspicion that US intelligence leaker Edward Snowden is on board, the foreign minister has said.
David Choquehuanca denied that Mr Snowden was...
Quakeworld, pleaseIt's kind of funny / sad to see 64 player FPS servers seen as a target today when we were running them back in 1997.
Maybe there's a niche for some really fast-paced multiplayer FPS now with unrealistic weapons.
