It's just a macguffin. You put these super-badass swords in characters hands and need them to have meaning and value. But you also want these characters to go through trouble, get captured etc.

Origin is a pain in the ass and offers no value but I can't imagine not playing a desirable game just because of it (Or playing on a system you'd rather not use). Plus if this game has as much mobility and speed as it appears to offer playing on a mouse/kb will be important.
