I actually like that idea of unlocking new races, that sounds pretty cool as opposed to "Hey we discovered a new race oh and we suddenly know absolutely everything about them" ...it would kinda suck for players later down the line I suppose to miss those races coming to be but that'd be fucking...

Truth. I wonder how they're going to handle closed beta though? If the game is in open development I'm curious. I really think NDA is only used as an extra hype tool at this point because all these companies know their game will be leaked no matter what.

I haven't spent any money yet in the game and have been playing on and off since launch, you can get everything with certs excluding skins. Of course certs come slow sometimes but there's plenty of ways to get a ton of certs.
