    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

Oh I get it. And I'm not that far removed from Live as I was still actively playing during the House of Thule expansion. I think my necro had around 6K AA points at the time I quit but I had several alts/bots that were well behind that. AAs came much faster for them. And yes, auto granting was...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

I remember when Luclin launched and the AA system went live, I was happy to get one AA point in a four hour grind fest in Fungus Grove on my warrior. Not sure why we used to camp that zone aside from the fact there were plenty of shrooms to pull but it was pretty shitty. Fun hearing about...

I seem to recall Mages struggling with theirs due to the Plane of Sky 7th island drop. As time passed and loot from PoS became less attractive, it was difficult to convince guildees to go due to the time requirements. My timeframes may be different than others as I started playing EQ a little...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

The original epics in EQ were so disparate in power, longevity, and quest completion, yet they were all extremely coveted by players. It didn't seem to matter that some were relatively easy to obtain (i.e. Rogue) while others were extremely hard/long (i.e. Mage, Warrior). Almost everyone had a...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

As cool as the Fiery Avenger was for Paladins, nothing beat the warrior epic in terms of particle design. Red and blue swords that could be combined into a two hander was complete badass! I was level a lvl 17 warrior when I saw my first one. Jaw dropping at the time.

A lean budget may actually be a good thing for VR. Obviously, they still need a certain dollar amount just to finish developing the entire game to launch. What that amount is and how much they've secured already are beyond most everyone's knowledge on this board. It brings up a topic I've been...

    Everquest Mysteries

Running through those drachnids from FV to Lake of Ill Omen was always an adventure, especially in the mid 20s and 30s. I also remember some fairly rare Iksar necro spawn that popped around there too. Vekis maybe? Bitch was the level equivalent of Dorn in WC.

Some interesting combos listed, such as Ogre Druid, Dwarf Chanter, and Elven Shaman. Will be interesting if they also incorporate racial bonuses/penalties along with them. And the starting cities for each race is a big deal to many people. I'm glad they're going that route.

A hundred times this! Downtime should seem long to the beginning player but should also decrease over time through leveling. The acquisition of better items, spells, and new abilities will obviously play a major role in not only taking on harder, more challenging mobs but also in more efficient...

I'm largely in agreement with you in that, by all accounts I've seen/read, Smed is just plain bad at managing good game development. He just seems blinded by the lure of the almighty dollar. Not that there is anything wrong with trying to make money. Hardly. The real crime is in the lost...

I only started playing this for the first time towards the end of the summer. I just recently hit lvl 57 so I'm still playing catch up. "Sony Online Entertainment took a $62 million writeoff in 2013 for development costs associated with EverQuest Next and H1Z1." I couldn't care less that SOE lost money but that's an insane amount of money to have pissed away on two games.

Agreed about the classes being designed well conceptually. I think they just ran out of time to focus on tuning and balancing them correctly before they eventually just said " fuck it". Probably not too long before the parking lot massacre.

That's kinda what I expected. And if that is true, then I think it bodes well for them to repeat that formula here for Pantheon. They got waaay overzealous and arrogant at Sigil with Vanguard and it blew up in their face. Yet despite all of that, they still did release a playable game that many...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

It's way too early to to tell how it will be received. Outside of the obvious (i.e., donors, registered members at the Pantheon website, etc.) one could argue that the EQ Emu community is solid proof of a playerbase that would eat this type of game up. One could also argue that the lack of a...

The size of their team is a concern but perhaps not as much of one in my mind. For starters, I'm not convinced a large staff is good for this type of game right now. Or for that matter, for Brad to manage. Let them expand slowly and strategically to conserve resources. Their website does suggest...

The prognosis for this game is better than some here want to give it credit for. Yes, they still have a long way to go, in terms of both funding and in development, but most of what they have pushed out publicly thus far has been well received. Many were impressed with their first stream back in...

My experience with Necros came much, much later than this, after the dev team addressed some of their deficiencies. Adjusting spell resist checks and the introduction of the high-powered "fast" DoTs made Necros more useful in the raid game and just flat out sick in everything else.

I played EQ for probably 7-8 years. There were only two classes that I had never played - magician and rogue. Magician only because the fact that it was so pet-centric made it feel too close to Necro, which was my main for awhile. Rogue because the class just didn't appeal to me. At all...

I'm sure every one of those people knew full well going into it that there was a solid risk of it not panning out. Having been through a similar experience myself many years ago with a startup, that's just the harsh reality of the business. As much as everyone on the team wants it to be a...

You act as if this was some great crime or something. So what if EQ was inspired by Sojourn. The same can be said for WoW being inspired by what EQ and even UO did for the gaming genre before it. No doubt that both have been pretty shitty at running companies to this point in time. I think there is a big fundamental difference between the two though. Reminds me of the first time I took the boat to Kunark on my first character, a low 20s warrior. Too many of you are equating what raiding should be in a game such as Pantheon with raiding as you know it from 5, 10 and even 15 years ago. While some of us love to relive the glory/awfulness/greatness of Fear or Hate break ins, I'm not sure that's what the devs have in mind. That's not to...

From what I remember, EQ is where this all started with people selling high end items for real money before it completely mushroomed into an all out plat business. I honestly forgot all about the RMT factor. There's no denying that it has changed the way these games are played, which totally sucks for the typical player who simply wants to enjoy the game for what it is. That does bring up a good point though. I don't recall if the VR team has talked about...
