Long range assisted teleoperation is a big part of my area of research. I can't say too much about it besides, yes, that's a thing in one way or another.

An autonomous vehicle's max speed is dependent on the conditions and safety risks. Right now autonomous vehicles on highway can go pretty much whatever speed is legal. In many conditions the autonomous vehicle's perception is much better than a human. In future systems the difference between an...

Another cool part about autonomy and robots. The core sensor in all of these is lidar, which are the big spinney things you see on most autonomous vehicles. The big one, the velodyne hdl64e, is $80,000. The smaller ones Ford is using now are the velodyne hdl32s which are 30k. Velodyne released...

This is exactly right. I don't think we'll ever drop passenger control over vehicles, it'll just become either discouraged or foolish. Ex: how it was in iRobot.

Autonomous trucks are a fun problem. The big challenge with breaking into them is that for passenger vehicles just being able to minimize the participation of the driver is great, but for autonomous trucks the goal is to remove the driver from the vehicle entirely. Adding levels of driver...

Even level 3 is amazing and will make a huge impact for a lot of people. I got to try bosch's super cruise (level 3) system last year and I can't wait to get one. Being able to just get o nthe freeway, hit a button and resume control when I'm near my destination will be a game changer.

Right, and the kind of commoditization that will allow that is farther away than the people selling those ideas want you to think. It's very cool stuff and will happen eventually, just don't get anxious when it's not here in a decade.

Here's one of the fun problems that Ford is dealing with, snow: The Clever Way Ford’s Self-Driving Cars Navigate in Snow What they're doing is cool and textbook. They use their velodynes to build up a 3d model of the terrain over time, then do Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), which...

Nothing you said even addressed what I said. For SAE4, maybe, under certain constraints. 2021 is the kind of date that is ambitious and near enough to be impressive, but not near enough that people will hold you to it. But SAE5? Not a chance. http://www.sae.org/misc/pdfs/automated_driving.pdf...

Oh, and I'm super pumped for the next olympics. Instead of slums, sewage and Zika we have awesome autonomy stuff. Tokyo is setting up an entire robotic village for the 2020 Olympics

They have rent-a-bike stations that cost $8 for a half hour of use: BCycle - Home Maybe when we get to Star Trek levels of tech we'll have free autonomous taxi-service, but don't expect it to be cheap for a long time. Here's the truth: taxi drivers aren't expensive, uber drivers less so...

This is completely false. Lawn care is a pretty complex problem and few people will pay big bucks to take care of a subset of that problem with a robot. It's like saying the existence of the roomba has removed the market for vacuum cleaners.

    Autonomous Systems

A few key points from someone in the industry: 1. We're very far from 100% autonomous vehicles being mass marketed to the consumer. As in decades away. So don't worry about 100% autonomous vehicles whether you want them or hate them. It's like worrying about the license process to get a flying...

Could be that the cell tower went down before the outage and that caused your pogo app to say, "can't see shit captain" moments before the outage reached your area.

It's probably anectdotal but I really hope they add in that kind of spawning information. Anything that gives players clues as to where or when to go hunting for pokemon adds a lot of depth to the game.

    Everquest - Bristlebane Server

Sterling, BB is my home and I don't really want to relive my time in EQ. Zyke, I'm not totally integrated into the community but basically there are two top guilds: Ring of Valor and Reckless Ascension. I don't know RA's history much if they're a server transfer, split or what. RoV has casual...

    Everquest Mysteries

Each new expansion always had a few specific items that were amazing that I focused on. The original epics, the avatar weapons from sleeper's tomb, the fungi tunic etc. Nobody ever cared about the Warlord's Vambraces or whatever even if all those +gooder incremental items were the bulk of your...

I can't remember if it was a chick with some large clit, a hermaphrodit, a pre-op transgendered, a crossdresser or a 100% dude. I remember him saying something like, "When I suck her dick it doesn't even feel like a masculine organ."

I'm hearing they're tightening the noose on botters, but some people are saying they're just blindly cracking down on high level people who are getting reported by other players. If they keep it up botting will actually be an interesting problem to solve instead of the PoGo equivalent to...

Furor's 14 Days rant & First Look at WoW

The AA's aren't bad at all. You get autogranted some 70% of them and like Reht said you can pop lessons every day and get a bunch in 30m by running an easy couple instances back to back. Yeah, but once you're geared and positioned you were generally set until the next defensive rotation. Now...

Aye. Shields are super critical now. Using a shield puts you in a defensive stance which gives a ton of mitigation, and gives you access to skills like shield topple that help a lot.
