Finale was like watching a short movie, with a relatively high FX budget, some space battle stuff and random new set pieces (data core, behind the scenes turbolift). I thought I'd dislike more of it, and really in the end liked some of the world building it wrapped up with.

I think most just use the credits from contributing to the grid to pay for non-generating hours rather than pay for a battery. I know a number of people who just pay the connection fee, like $12.50/mo for power. I haven't bit yet because of the related costs you mention.
