Yup. Worlds are new and exciting when they're just released. When you're the pioneer exploring content with other people. Joining up after 80% of the active population is max level is lonely and boring.

Box sales might recoup some of the initial investment, but the cash cow is with a steady income from monthly subs and microtransactions. You don't get that from pumping up a dumb game that everyone leaves after a month.

MMO populations among different games are not homogeneous at all. A cursory look at populations in EQ, DFO, WoW and now TESO would demonstrate that easily.

What do you think the average age of TESO will be in a year? Keep in mind it's being released on consoles in a few months. Also keep in mind most Skyrim sales were on consoles.
