It's definitely a dumb guilty pleasure show. Strangest part is the fan service isn't even really a focus at all, just the dumbass sport and everything that goes with it.

Really liked it but thought the pre-accident portion could have actually been longer, as well as the training. I have no issues sitting through a 3 hour movie as long as it keeps me entertained the whole way through, but I guess studios don't want it.

The casting is such a huge part of it that often gets overlooked. Much like Patrick Stewart as Picard/older Professor X or Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, you associate the actor as that character and can't imagine anyone else playing them. Same goes for RDJ as Stark or Chris Evans as Steve Rogers...

That's the problem with the middle/setup movies a lot of franchises have, they tend to lean toward the cautious approach and just play it safe to introduce new plot devices or characters. The only truly great one I can think of is Empire Strikes Back.
