It's sad when you look at the 70s which is the only real comparison we have. We're almost following it to a T. We'll let off, get a year or so reprieve, and then inflation will really kick into high gear making this look tame in comparison. It's doubly sad that they've had the blueprint on what...

Man, this thread is depressing. My father in law is in hospice and probably has a week or so left at the most. Brother in law (my wife's only sibling) was able to get some paperwork done kind of last minute where my mother in law will get $215k in "disability." I believe it's already gone...

Like I said last week, it's VTSAX with Vanguard, and not the ETF version. So it settles out at the end of trading. Like yesterday I waited until about 15 min before close to sell. I wouldn't be doing anything today until after the FOMC.

Well that's just stupid. I'd say the chance of 75 is higher than 25, as Powell hasn't actually indicated any tapering. Everyone has just been assuming so.

If we really do get 50 basis points today and Powell doesn't decide to do his foot in mouth shit, we could be in for a monster day. Although I do wonder if we aren't muted this morning until the Fed meeting in anticipation.

I think over 750 is all that matters. Wife and I both were up in the 820s. I ended up getting a medical collection I never knew about it and it tanked me a ton. We'd need more than a 12.5% increase from today for me to lose (4465 S&P 500). The alternative would be a 25.8% drop (2947), which seems even more unlikely.

Why is the stablecoin backed by another asset? That seems to defeat the purpose of pegging it to the dollar. You're basically saying it's pegged to two different things and if one fails it goes tits up.

    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

Yeah, I'm confused by that. How do you "lose" a peg to the dollar? You either derive your value from it or you don't. Crypto is full of idiots.

So is this more bipolar market thinking the Fed is raising rates again, or consolidation (probably not, since it keeps skidding down)? If it's the rates issue, I really do wonder how bad this gets. Consumer spending is high, but it seems entirely based off massive amounts of credit. It's not...

Yeah, they'll be mutual funds (VTSAX) out of our taxable account. I've mostly been hoping we can hit 4100 for the first bit I sell. But with only a month left of the year, the time is running out for me to sell. It's a big risk waiting for a Santa rally at the end of the year, cause we could...

Damnit, I strongly considered putting in a sell order for maybe 1/4 of our 2023 expenses yesterday. I'm not sure when Vanguard executes trades, as this will be the first time we sell. I imagine you probably have to have it in by a certain time and then it settles out at the end of the trading day?

I posted about it about a month ago, but there was a massive institutional buy threshold at I want to say around 4030. Once we hit it, it was off to the races. I'm still concerned this is just a bull trap, but I'm hoping maybe we can hit something like 4200 by the end of the year.

This is what I don't understand. The goal of interest rate hikes is to do just this. So why is the market down today? Shouldn't a bad jobs report be good news? It means the Fed won't need to be as aggressive.
