Schadenfreude will always be an element in play in these situations, but I don't really see all that many people genuinely taking part in it in this thread. I think it's more of a "I told you so" than actually being happy that Brad failed or that people are being disappointed.

Kickstarter and crowdfunding are fine, in my opinion. It's up to the person who's pledging to properly vet the company/persons and decide if the risk is worth it and if the campaign is well organized, etc. I've donated to several Kickstarters and, thus far, they have delivered on their promise...
