Meh, your time and money would be better spent insulating the exterior wall of your basement so that your home is warm from the bottom up.

This is so true. I am handy, so my friends say, "Hey, I want to add a plug here. That'd be easy, right?" It's on a cement block wall. duh. Also, as far as suspended ceilings go, a friend of mine is about to do one in his basement. He is going with this system: http://www.ceilinglink.com/...

This is a great post. With floor squeaks, you're mostly just going to have to live with them. There are things you can do to reduce them, for a while. Sorry 'bout that.

We started solid food around four months, but breast fed some until a year. The solid food we did was just puree of fruits and veg. I'd cook up and puree things like pumpkin or peas, then freeze them in ice cube trays. Nice serving sizes, ready to go. Those things thaw very quickly, too...

Screw all you pussies. My son was eating steak and smoking cigars at 2 months old. That's what men do. On a serious note, have the conversation with them. Don't be a pushover on things that you think have serious potential repercussions on your child's health. Solids at that young an...

At my son's school there is a retired police officer who lives just down the street. He walks over and watches the entire morning routine every day (buses coming in, parents dropping off). This is apparently something he arranged with the school. He has a direct line to the police hotline for...

As far as keeping butter out, I buy it in boxes which have four sticks inside. We keep one stick in the cabinet in a butter dish, and with seven people in the house eating toast for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch, we go through the stick in a couple to three days. The rest we keep...

A couple of things: I have a friend with a pumpkin cheesecake recipe that will make you have mouthgasms. I'm getting it and will post here later. Butter on pasta before sauce would, I think, have a similar effect as rinsing your cooked pasta. It would negate the benefits of the starch on...

Rolling is more labour intensive, but I like it better (if I may weigh in). You don't need the board pictured above (unnecessary, as he said). When I worked for a restaurant as a chef we made our own gnocchi. We rolled it all out, cut it into segments, and used the back of a fork and our...
