    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

Nah, we're bored. So, like every game thread that has zero info in it, we're making our dream game, and discovering that our dreams are not exactly similar to other people's dreams...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

100$ in 1999 gives you 140$ in 2013. So, yea, 7 millions $ for EQ today.

    The Elder Scrolls Online

And yet, funnily enough, that's what a game like Minecraft does. In Minecraft, your game world is generated in 16X16m chunks whenever one player comes close to an empty area. Each of those 16X16m areas connects with the four adjacent squares (including those that don't exist yet and will be...

    The Elder Scrolls Online

Uh? Why not. The thing with procedural generation is that, if you have the same procedure and same seed number, it generates the same things on the server and the client. It's done all the time with Minecraft, people see a nice vista/location/village/whatever, post their world ID and the loc...

Wildstar Launch Thread - Server: Stormtalon | Faction: Dominion

I do remember our first Lucifron kill, we were about 31 I think. We got stuck a bit later (because casual family-oriented guild, not hardcore optimizers) until we got more bodies to throw at Garr. Never did it in Vanilla, but the Naxx10 we killed him once with 3 (the MT, a mage and me). It took...

    The Elder Scrolls Online

One of the things I think would work pretty well would be for player activity to influence an established area's building. We're Heroes (even in games where we're not designated as The One True Savior of the Universe). Where we go, where we operate from, merchants and artisans and bankers...

    38 studios Auction Nov 14th and 15th.

The real question is "what other sources of cash". 38S never managed to get any additional funding for its MMO. EA was ok for an almost-finished single-player game, but no one stepped up to fund Curt's real dream. So, it was "accept a RI loan with unrealistic conditions, or fold and close MY...

Releasable and earning back how much? At the point RI found itself, it had spent spend XX millions, there appeared to be no chance of finishing the product within the remaining X millions on the loan, 38S failed to secure additional funding (ding ding: no one believed them enough to pay? And...

The problem with doors is that they're relatively easy to implement as props, but hard as hell to make as voxels. Meaning you only have specific doors, which can be resized, but not shaped to fit.

    MMO Glitches / Sploits

Geometry is an endless source of 'sploits. Working correctly in 3D while your AI is still supposed to act only on 2D surfaces is hard.

    MMO Glitches / Sploits

Goes well with the original idea which was to travel into the past with a list of MMO sploits and use them to RMT the hell of it. If you want to cheat, cheat the biggest way you can.

    MMO Glitches / Sploits

Because if you don't, I'll sue you. That's the point of patenting things (from the future, natch): when someone wants to make them, they have to license your patent or you can sue them for damages. No work needed from your part (well, a few legal filings, but that's not work, it's lawyer stuff)...

    Trove: Scott's Trion on voxels

Oh, it is. I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I did not consider this one of the many attempts at getting into a genre no one knew existed 2 years ago. The difference between Trove and EQNL is that EQNL does add "realistic" (well, at least Cartoonish) to the voxel world. Trove doesn't...

Looks like you've swallowed the capitalist line about money being wealth/value/work/whatever. It's not. As its core, money is a unit of social influence. The most basic and old forms of money are all about swapping gifts and impressing neighbours. When I buy a loaf of bread, they're telling you...

    Trove: Scott's Trion on voxels

Oh, yea. Definitively. I'm looking forward to EQNL, not so much to Trove. Trove is basically "how do we get quick revenue from the voxel genre", which is most bucks out of least investment. If you don't have a lot of modelers/texturers (which SOE has put in EQNL, since they're already putting...

    Trove: Scott's Trion on voxels

To provide players who want voxel-based shit with some shinies. Since Mojang proved to everyone that the market for this was huge beyond any expectations (13+ million on PC, 10+ millions on XBox, 12+ millions on Android, and probably soon 10+ millions on for the PS3/PS4), everyone is jumping...

Wehopewe are his target market. But, in fact, he's trying to break into the gossiping-girls-8-to-11 niche, which is exploding due to the fact that they tend to get their smartphone earlier and earlier these days.

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

It's the parts that are "meh". The levelling part is relatively well done, but, except for three dungeons (the Wall, the Brewery and the Shado-Pan monastery) where the story ends a bit abruptly if you don't do the dungeon (i.e. do multiplayer) afterward, it is entirely a single player affair...

Star Citizen Online - The search for more money

It depends on "starts". Right now, you have access to the Hangar module, where every of the ships you purchased is visible, can be entered, checked, etc. The dogfight module for space combat was supposed to be released by the end of the month but may have "slight delays".

I work on a daily basis with the network guys (I'm the CISO). I do have the routers and FW config, I even wrote the rules for the latter. Believe me, I know the network setup around, and I do meet with our upstream ISP guys on a quarterly basis for cooperation on various projects. Oh, and I...

    Entropy on Steam.

Except with Kickstarter, you usually get to wait until they have a game to play it. But to open a Steam Early Shit, the dev HAVE to provide a pile of manure to get your money.

    Entropy on Steam.

That's the current problem with Steam. The quality control is zero, and pre-release is a trap destined to lure you into buying games that are even more unfinished the standard release today. Never, ever, buy a pre-release on Steam.

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

It's a decent single-player RPG. At the current discounted price, and if you can squeeze it into one sub period, it's worth the price. Once you hit max, the "meh" parts kick in, and you can unsub and go away.

Dunno for you. Me, I never get HD ads at work. Ever. It's always 320p pixelated shit. Anyway, remember that streaming accounts for 53% of ALL internet traffic, with Youtube representing about 19% on its own. That means that at least 20% of all bandwidth your ISP for all its customers uses...

As I said: what's important is less your connection than the connection your ISP has with whatever network it uses to reach the nearest Youtube datacenter. If that connection is overloaded, it doesn't matter how big yours is.
  37. Ukerric

    The Division

That will depend on your provider. Some ISP have good connectivity with some networks, some have shit. It doesn't matter what YOUR connectivity to YOUR ISP is, it matters what the ISP has. In the old days (read 1999), data flowed where it could and where there was capacity. That's no longer...
