As someone who had rotator cuff surgery 2.5 years ago, I can confirm that that's a hard one to come back from. I did PT twice a week for a year and even now I can't throw a ball very well although it continues to improve. I know that he would have better trainers and more time to train back than I did in addition to being younger and an elite athlete, but if throwing a ball is what you do for a living, a rotator cuff tear is pretty bad luck.
