Add Purdy and amend that to two week stretch. Not sure any of us expect oldsters like Flacco or Rodgers to survive the season (hell, who knows about Stafford either).

Part of this is the clear recent trend in the NFL that strong defenses (vs offenses) start well - "Get up there and kill the QB" requires far less coordination and reps than some offensive trick play does.

As for McCarthy, if its the same leg that lost the season last year, I'd be cautious as hell too. Give the dude a light schedule with his new kid for a couple weeks and have him in all the rehab.

Win or lose, all I think of when I watch the current Buc's is that the Panthers let Mayfield go because he 'wasn't working out'.

That's a dumb stat to rely on. It's not like all those 0-2 teams were equal in talent or experience.

That said, their schedule doesn't seem that easy.

pretty sure the stat L Lenardo was referring to was from like 1990-2022 with a 265 team sample size. Perfect example of it in action was the Bengals missing the playoffs last year starting out 0-3
