asked grok and chatgpt to pull early projection, pretty meaningless, most numbers are from just a few websites and reddit

Movies are all gay now. Until they fix that I'm a hard pass on going to the theater.

That’s a long list of shitty repetition. May be part of the issue, Hollywood. None of those excite me at all.

I’ll watch dune in theatres but that’s it. They just retread stories now, have shitty agendas, ugly actresses. Prices are expensive as hell and people are struggling to buy groceries. Watching at home is cheaper, more convenient, and nicer environment. Gee why is no one going.

Jesus. What a horrible lineup.
Pretty much. I think the only movie I'm somewhat interested in is the 28 days Bone Temple deal just because I think it's going to be absurdly fucked up. There's not anything else on that list that I care about, but I'm also not going to go to the theater to see that particular movie.

I hope everything underperforms, at best, or outright fails embarrassingly, at worst, because I want Hollywood to collapse and to take California with it.

Part of me REALLY wants movie theaters to completely disappear and collapse because Fuck. Hollywood. A part of me will miss it. Used to go to the movies almost every Friday for years and years. Now I can count on one hand the number of movies I've seen in theaters in the past oh...6 or so years.

Nosferatu
Deadpool and Wolverine
Last Spider-Man movie
Top Gun II
Superman

I'll look back and all throughout childhood, my dad used to take us to the dollar cinema, or the regular movie theater to see the big films on the weekends. I mean I remember seeing Batman and Jurassic Park, fucking Willow, Predator 2, RoboCop 2, Die Hard 1-3, and all kinds of other movies like Ghost Dad, which if you think about it is pretty ironic considering Bill Cosby is black, but he was also Cliff Huxtable, an American father figure. I mean I couldn't count the number of films I've seen in the theater.

Taking your kids to the movie theater and letting them spend a buck in the arcade, grabbing some popcorn and sneaking in some candy it was a time-honored tradition.

All through high school and college my friends and I would always go and catch movies opening weekend, or if we were at a class in college go grab a matinee after lunch or something. Even through most of the 2000s I used to go and see a movie maybe once a week with a buddy or my brother when I was living up in Charleston. There was always something to at least go and see, or you were going out on a date or something.

Hell my wife and I used to go at least once a month to go watch a movie that we could both agree upon. I know I've said it in the past but the last movie I saw in the theater was 1917, so that was what 2020?

Fuck going and spending the amount of money you might spend at a decent restaurant for a full meal and a drink for some current Hollywood bullshit. It's just not worth it when I can be just as happy watching the film on my widescreen monitor in my office with my good headphones, and if it's a scary movie I can turn the lights off and enjoy it even more.

They're just really hasn't been anything that has made me just want to jump up and run to the theater. I mean I saw all of the Lord of the rings movies every Christmas with my dad and it became a tradition, and it was something to look forward to. I remember him taking me to see all of the Star Trek movies in the theater from Wrath of Khan and on. Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, all the great '80s and early '90s stuff. The Goonies in the theater as a kid was one of my favorite movie experiences.

It's just that Hollywood doesn't make the magic that it used to, and butts aren't getting filled in seats.

there are 100% movies worth watching in theaters, especially IMAX/Dolby for the immersion. Its like... 3 movies a year. Theaters are fucked otherwise. I saw a few movies in theaters last year and I don't think any of them were really "worth" it. Avatar 3 sucked blue dick, Marvel was slop, Superman was just ok.

china box office is also kicking ass, while still overall smaller than US (i think around $7 billion for 2025) its growing 20-50% a year while US keeps shrinking. Not surprising, theaters are shutting down constantly here while they added over 2000 theaters in china last year. Cars, roads, tech, women without penises are all doing better in Chyna.
