After keeping up with this thread and multiple videos, I don't see myself ever playing this game again. I missed the boat buying it late, just a few months before the 2.0 update. I would have enjoyed the earlier updates, and the one before 2.0 was adequate enough that I didn't completely hate it, but I have zero desire to log in and get pissed about what used to be/could have been. I've got a different game to pour hundreds of hours into now, that I actually enjoy, so fuck this game. I'm sad I gave them money, even if I did get a few dozen hours out of it.

Use the Steam options to go back to the experimental builds. Not sure how far back you can go. Alpha 12 maybe?

Didn't know you could do that, thanks. Not going to bother for quite a while though, I think. Abiotic Factor is consuming all of my time right now, and I still have a shitton of newish games that I want to play a lot as well, like Monster Train 2.

Just saw this Jawoodle video and he found some upcoming Bandit stuff hidden in the game files already. It's pretty cool.

Really just kinda exposes how pathetic TFP have gotten. It's crazy to call this a 3.0 update given how little is in it.
We will have to see how them being sold works out. They actually have 2 dev teams going apparently. 4.0 is supposed to drop later this year instead of like 15 months later.

The update is big in the sense that it is adding a bunch of stuff under the hood (the tons of server settings), but ya content wise it is sort of "whatever". Some new POI are cool I guess, although you'd have to gen a fresh random map to get them

Being able to turn off zombie digging is cool - zombie digging was so fucking dumb, it forever ruined bunker bases.

Oh shit you can turn off zombie digging now? HURM.
That might be enough for me to try this out.

I did have to laugh at bandits. Feels like that was a feature "coming soon" a decade ago. If you can also disable that retarded biome badge shit they added, that'd be nice too. I haven't played since before whatever introduced that.

pretty sure it actually was promised over a decade ago.

You can, in fact most of what they've done since 2.0 came out is add ways to undo the various unpopular changes they've made to the game over the years. That's basically all 3.0 is, finally allowing the game to be played however players want instead of demanding that you only play exactly the way the fun police permit you to play.

Underground bases look viable again.

I really unleashed the 'tism on my first ever 7D2D world. Not only did I build a good sized bedrock base, I actually dug a 2x2 tunnel north to the snow and south to the desert so I could ride a minibike? I think those existed back then. This was in Navezgane back in like A14 so there used to be a small house just south of Diersville that I used as my starting shelter while I got the digging done. I dunno how I could stomach all that mining cause I'm pretty sure it wasn't even possible to one-shot stone back then like you can now.

*edit*

apparently they just can't attack downwards at all if you turn digging off, meaning a simple wooden hatch is an invincible forcefield.

Augurs used to be very powerful in early builds - maybe with that? As long as you had gas you could delete blocks pretty fast
