The caveat is (again) that this is the most concise (and probably the best) Westeros story Martin wrote, and they only have two more published stories to work with.
Hell, you could argue that even the material they added to this season doesn't particularly hold up. Egg exercising Thunder? Sure, that addition makes sense, but does Egg practicing being a squire make any sense, if the reason he was headed to the tourney was to serve as Daeron's squire? Maekar fighting through the combat to save Aerion does make sense, but why is he also not concerned about Daeron, his firstborn son and heir?
I'm not sure how I feel about the episode 6 additions. Dunc/Egg do come into conflict with Lyonel, but not until decades later, for actions Aegon does as king - Lyonel being somewhat against Egg from the start doesn't make any sense. And Egg not knowingly transferring to Dunc's service wouldn't necessarily change the narrative in the other published stories (presuming Egg kept his ring), but seems like it would add complications that would come up sooner than later.
Edit: I'm undecided about ghost Arlan at the end. Is this Furious 7? Where's Ser Paul Walker.
Wrong movie sir!
