Besides the sub and battle passes + cosmetics (I'm fine with all of these as a way to monetize), how bad is the p2w?

Sad but true. I sadly buy into things like inventory space or weight, because i despise inventory management in any game(and mod it out completely if I can) with a costume here and there. But never did understand paying to basically finish the game faster, as gear progression is all there really is in these games.

You can buy Kinah (gold) directly from the shop in Asia, which makes any attempt to defend the P2W stupid. Remains to be seen what we get in NA.

Its entirely possible to play this F2P and have fun. Its entirely possible to play this with the battle passes and subs and you can be competitive (I define this as clearing all PVE content as it releases and being in the top 1% for PVP). Its also entirely possible to spend 50k real life money and be significantly ahead of everyone, clearly have less skill but still mop the floor with people who play 4 hours a day (e.g. a lot for most people) because your wallet is better than them.

The same could be said for Diablo Immortal. Up until 2-3 months in.

P2W tends to ramp up over time, rather than be something that can immediately be felt impacting the game experience.

This game has a 2 month shelf life before it's completely unplayable.

I don't disagree, I have been rather direct in this thread that I don't see this lasting very long in the West (hot take, I know). I think we will see the vast majority quit after one month but there is enough here and lack of alternative MMO options that some will likely play this for a lot longer.

Yeah, anyone who would play this game would be playing Aion 1, it's essentially the same game, right down to the sound effects. And I just don't get these asian devs obsession with the systems bloat. All the extra skill boards, and pets and cards and pantheon...ugh. There's just nothing interesting or exciting about this game. Oh, you can fly, until your flight time runs out, unless you wanna chug a potion. I do like the skill and stigma system, it's just too bad the PVE is boring as fuck.

So, yeah, initial massive launch as usual, since there's nothing else, and then dead a few months later.

I like the initial MMO rush as we all figure stuff out. I'll probably play this for a few weeks, like I did Blue Protocol (yeah yeah :p ). I'm easily amused I guess.

I remember having fun in the original Aion, but Koreans loved their CC in PvP, I seem to recall being stunned for like 20 seconds in mass PvP while we all had models turned off and were just icons fighting each other lol.

But that Aion 2 video of the P2Win dude just face tanking 20 players has me concerned.

Hoping you actually play this at launch so we can MMO together a bit!

I'll be there, that's why I'm messing around on the TW server, got my sin to 45, and dabbling with a ranger and glad. Not messing with endgame much, since I don't wanna do all that shit over again, and the 190 ping makes the interactive boss mechanics a pain in the fucking ass (death waves that makes you sprint or jump, etc ugh). Just wish the devs would lay off all the stacked, redundant systems and work on real content.

This is the correct approach. Avoid bonding with characters like you did with Lost Ark. Sin is certainly going to be a popular choice (likely behind Ranger because NA loves Rangers). Imagine we see a lot of need for supports though.

Yeah, glad is a bit dull, gonna try out SM and Chanter next. Gonna do Sin main, and prolly a ranger for funsies, but I wouldn't mind having a support as a main alt. Just still trying to figure out how viable having an alt is, with all the dumb shit they do, like bound kinah, and limited stuff "per account/server" etc.

Dear fuck, while this is a nice video, this is so much fucking random shit. 20billion type of currencies, lots of daily and weekly stuff to keep track of, 350 types of progression in gearing, looks like so much fucking busywork just for the sake of it. It looks like a 20years old MMO systems when there's been shit added over and over and again, but it's all there from the start somehow. Makes gachas look clean and simple.

Yep. That's why I posted it. Systems are not content. And it's like they're trying to disguise the "asian grind" by breaking it up into a 1000 pieces, but I'd rather grind mobs in the same spot all day then have to jump through all these fucking hoops just to grind the same amount in 50 different locations. And then spend half my game time in the fucking UI making number go bigger. And if you want to play an alt? Double it.

The game is just not FTP or casual friendly at all, and while I'm hardly a casual, I don't like all this shit either. It's just as boring as it is redundant. The game could use some real "westernization" but afterwards it would be a completely different game.

I'm gonna play it, just not sure how long I'll be able to tolerate it. I already have a job.

If you are planning to play a korean MMO, going in expecting anything different at this point is dumb. Locking the market behind the sub though, that is some pro level greed and I can see turning a lot off. If they cant even sell or buy shit in f2p game with all the other limits(less dungeon runs, less energy etc).

Rest of that sub stuff seems normal(more dungeon runs, more time on stuff, vendors etc, though remote storage is cool). That remote storage option seems like a good way to not have to buy inventory space too(which I always do because I hate inventory management with a passion). Is sub really locked to server? so you couldnt reoll to friends or else where without paying again?

Granted the example in that video is the extreme "you will never match someone paying 10 to 30 grand", like wtf.

Black desert is full of card swipers, maybe not as much now but still plenty. And some of them spent 10s of thousands of dollars. I'm not a fan of P2W games but that's just the way Korea rolls.

Couldn't keep up with the swipers but I played the hell out of BDO anyways, and still log in for at least a couple months a year. Just love the combat. Did spend more money than usual on that game though. They are pretty good at getting me to open my wallet. Hell, I just paid for two EQ Frostreaver accounts, with mounts and box for each. On a 27 year old game. Crazy.

Korean games are usually decent, especially at launch. So if I get a month or two of fun it usually justifies the box price. At least for me. Even if I get the battle pass. Everyone has a different limit. My turn to buy beer tomorrow and that will cost me way more for a few hours and a hangover, than these games do for a few months.
