Yeah but they could do more stuff in the universe. I certainly wouldn't want a remake. It's a seminal cyberpunk film.

I don't even know if you need anything else in that universe though. Not like Hollywood wouldn't make some stupid ass deal using the setting. I mean do you really trust them to handle the IP?

Was a good story and what the hell else are you going to add to it. I'm at the comic or Manga has a lot more material, I think I have a couple of issues from the American prints and it planned on buying them all when I was a teenager, but I couldn't find the whole set.

I'm sure there's probably an omnibus out there, and I wouldn't mind getting it at some point. Hell you could probably download the damn thing, but I guess I'd rather have it in my hands.

Otomo is supposedly tackling a series with Sunrise Studio(Gundam) that was vaguely described but should be tackling the entirity of the manga rather than a slice that is the movie.. which I think is a better route for the legacy of Akira, and thank fuck the western live action sank. It's such a risky investment for the required allotment of money to even cut close, with an incredibly high chance to just flop.

If we can get Gundam Thunderbolts level of animation out of Sunrise with Otomo's work ethic; quite literally the best case scenario for Otomo and Akira legacy.. dudes body of work is chef kiss.


I own a colorized vers but tis not in english. iirc there is an international colorized version but not in any sort of omnibus.

Some of my all-time favorite panels come out of Akira, Yamagata and Tetsuo standoff sequence is easily top 5; imo. Movie gave it an offscreen reference lol
