Decidely mediocre, not as bad as I expected it to be after the dumpster fire of a trailer but not really that good, horrible third act, no real tension at all in the entire movie, and some pretty poor casting between Will Smith, Aladdin, and Jafar.

The one thing the movie does is make you appreciate how talented, unique, and singular Robin Williams was - I am not a fan of his comedy style but he elevated the animated Aladdin movie so much, I imagine after a few years pass most people will just want to show their kids the animated Aladdin and not bother with this one at all.

I think most people are not going to bother with this one vs the animated one.

In the end, honestly, the "end" and added SJW song are the defining choice factors in this vs the animated.

Same with Beauty and the Beast- the animated was fully a better movie in everything, even pacing, songs, characters etc. The choice to show your kids the IRL version vs animated is, teh gays and forced diversity (noticed how NONE of the random BLACK FRENCH people are bad? they are not part of the attack at the end, etc. the blacks are magically the only GOOD townsfolk etc.)

Cinderella however, the live action was better than the animated, they did not tack anything on, they did not push any "modern" thinking into your face- they FIXED things from animated, i.e. its slow and bad pacing and OMG THIS CARTOON IS LASING FOREVER - the live action version holds all the good/magic of the cartoon and improved upon its issues. Alladin and B&TB did NONE of this.

Great movie.

So many sparkles on the Jasmin's dress. So many jewels.

She was so fucking hot and nice on the eyes to watch, that stole the movie for me. Aladdin on the other hand was a miscast, dude had very bad charisma for me, and in some scenes he had a 5 o'clock shadow.
Aladdin is a teenager so that really threw me off.

Will Smith was great as the genie. He went really HAM and gave his best performance possible.

I'm not sure what you guys didn't like about the movie.

Yes Jaffar sucked, he wasnt eviiiil enough. They needed an older actor maybe.

I did finish up this movie and I agree the 3rd act was very lackluster. I thought the first 120mins was pretty decent but then it fell flat. Especially the girl power song felt very out of place. Jafar wasn't menacing enough and his 3rd wish didn't seem as believable as the animated version.

Also, animated & this movie still suffer a bit on that 3rd wish... like, if the Genie grants you the powers, doesn't that mean he's still more powerful than you - or at least equal? Even if you do become a genie yourself? I thought the live action movie could have tried it differently there. The cartoon can get away with stuff like that easier.

Compared to B&tB: Even when my kids were a year younger they were watching the shit out of the Live Action B&tB and almost know it all by heart. I can't picture this movie having the same effect. The songs & characters aren't as memorable as in B&tB. My kids love Belle, Chip, Mrs Potts, and especially Beast. They love the Live action more than the animated even.

Monkey, Carpet, Iago, & Genie could have been big hits but really only Genie was decent. My kids love Rajah the most so far after 1 viewing.

This was better than expected based on the trailers. I watched the original a couple days before seeing this, so it was fresh in my mind and made for easy comparisons.

I think they did a fantastic job casting everyone other than Jafar. The dude who played Aladdin looks like a human cartoon character with his goofy, out-of-proportion smile. Jafar wasn't threatening enough. They needed a Ben Kingsley type for that role, especially since he never did singing so they could go on look/acting alone.

Naomi Scott's (Jasmine's) singing put everyone else to shame. I'd say they ranged from below average (Will Smith singing) to average (Will Smith slow rapping) to decent (Aladdin) to excellent (Jasmine).

I really REALLY enjoyed Will Smith as the genie. That first scene on the boat was really jarring because it was like, "Oh hey, it's Will Smith doing cosplay" because of his weird accent. However, as soon as he came out of the lamp he settled into it quickly. I liked that he was a bit wacky without trying to go full Robin Williams. I think he managed to put his own stamp on it.

The additional scenes were fine; the new songs didn't bother me although I don't feel like any of them are particularly memorable. I actually found myself laughing out loud during the "jam" scene, and I enjoyed the new-ish ending to Prince Ali when they're all waiting for the Sultan to give the signal.

Visually it was fantastic. It really looked like a cartoon in live action format due to the colors and crispness of everything. It certainly didn't look or feel like a real world.

One visual aspect I didn't like was the retarded Guy Ritchie slow-mo/speed up shit. I had no idea he was the director until his name came on screen, and I thought "Oh no..." and sure enough, he shoehorned in that weird shit.

Edited to add: Iago was a waste. He should have had more personality like in the cartoon. What was the point of even getting a known actor (Alan Tudyk) to voice him?

how did he handle the ending?

He was ok, can’t really grasp the gravity of human death yet, he just didn’t know where everyone went. I just said “No one knows, he just made them disappear, the next movie is trying to bring everyone back” and he was just like “awesome, hey mom there’s another one!”

They didn't want the pedo angle from the animated version in the live action movie.

So IDK why people keep saying this. Disney wasn't going to put a pedo storyline in the movie.

Okay just saw this and it’s a classic example in why I shouldn’t listen to this place sometimes.

Man, I really liked it. The trailers were not kind to this and my wife wanted to see it and I was like “ehhhhh.....” but I really enjoyed enjoyed myself pretty much the whole time. It was a great take on the original movie imo.

Most of the people that actually watched the movie in this thread either liked it or at worst thought it wasn’t bad, so not sure what you are taking about

you can say that the disney marketing of this movie was highly flawed. just like Captain Marvel was. horrible trailer, horrible woke marketing and publicity. the actual CM movie was just ok, not as bad as the trailers made it look, just not great either. the Alladin's trailers were just horrible. it was just good luck that the movie was decent despite that. most of us here arent going to go in blind, expecting the actual trailer to be the worst parts of a movie. they typically highlight the best parts.

I was at WDW on release weekend, there was 0 special events. Generally when they release a movie the characters are out, there are events, special one time foods/desserts in commemoration of the movie... but this one... nothing...there was a poster along with other movie posters in hollywood studios, that was it.

I'd say there was a general consensus for awhile on this that it was going to be absolute shit, Will Smith as genie blasphemy to Robin Williams, etc. If you avoided the thread around time it actually came out would have missed the actual positive reviews for it. I'm hopeful that reviews are right because I'm stuck going to see it tonight.

Oh I agree with that, I’m saying since the movie has actually came out the reviews from people that actually watched it were mostly positive. The released material prior to movie release showcased absolutely the worst parts of the movie
