I haven't seen the OG Anaconda in forever.

But I remember it was famous for the crappy late 90's CGI snake. Asylum level of shit
Yes, but Anaconda will never hold the crown for worst special effect snake so long as copies of "Hard Ticket to Hawaii" are still floating around. But that was late 80's. Potentially a whole different "bad fake snake" genre....

I don't remembered anaconda getting hated on like Spawn for CGI.

If you do watch this movie hopefully you can turn it off.i was waiting for some cop sirens going off at some point

pfft don't insult Lake Placid (or Congo and Devil's Advocate for that matter) by mentioning it in the same sentence as Anaconda, unless that sentence is to say how they don't belong in the same sentence as one another. Yes, I'm aware that you technically did not do what I just told you not to do.

Lake Placid is a not-quite masterpiece of comedy horror. Shit was funny as hell, Brendan Gleeson and Oliver Platt were great.
Best advice ever given for life in a modern city was from Congo.

Being the comic book nerd that I am, I remember seeing Spawn in theaters. That cloak was such CGI trash. But yeah, it is what it is. Still a Spawn movie.

I've got issues 1 to somewhere over 100. Best part about that movie was the soundtrack. I was pretty excited about seeing it and we went opening night, and it was pretty bad. The HBO animated series was much better though.

It was so bad that I didn't even attempt the animated series. Hmm... I still have all of the books from my youth at my Mom's house in PA.

The animated show was pretty faithful for a bit. Keith Davids did the voice for Spawn and it was perfect. Animation is a little dated, but it was good for back then. Definitely a lot darker and meant for older audiences. Think it used to air at midnight, and I'd always set my VCR to record it back in highschool if I was working.

You even got Todd McFarlane doing a cheesy intro for every episode, having rewatched it a couple of years ago and they're pretty hilarious because he's all super serious.

I mean if you liked the comic when you were younger I'd give it a shot. It's probably on HBO Max.

Wasn't the original a Syfy channel movie like sharknado though? Of course no one was going to give it shit for the shoestring budget.

They were both major Hollywood releases in the same year with nearly identical budgets.

Eh pretty sure I watched them on syfy. Or maybe it was low budget remakes.
There were 4 cheeseball sequels before whatever this new remake is. The first sequel was in theaters, the next two were Sci Fi, the last one was SyFy.

Wouldn't be surprised if this shit tried to make some sort of self aware jokes about the first one, like intentionally including a reverse waterfall or something. Why does this exist?

I don't know how bad they are but I would pick them over rewatching this new one

I know I'll get a lot of hate for this, but this movie was better than I expected. Every year I go on Christmas to see a movie with a friend and his family, and this was the choice. I despise Jack Black with every fiber of my being, and there was a LOT of stupid in this movie, but I'll admit, it made me laugh a few times and it was better than I dreaded it would be.

And I was actually ok with how they handled the whole sequel issue. Not really a spoiler because it happens in the first 5 minutes, but Rudd gets the rights to the movie and convinces Black and the others to shoot a remake of it, so the whole time they are aware of the first movie as a movie, not as events that happened previously. They talk about Ice Cube and J-Lo and Voight and Stoltz, so it actually worked in that respect for me.

Was it a masterpiece, or should you rush out to see it? Hell no. But for free one night, you could do worse.

No hate from me, I just wanted to know if this was utter dog shit and apparently it is not. Thank you.

Now I would probably never watch this, have never liked Jack Black and now find him insufferable AND I have never seen the original so I don’t care, however I was curious if this was a legit movie or one of those Adam Sandler tax write off type of deals.
