Accidentally leaked, yes. This is actually a pretty cool little detail. Rather than just some generic "our spies figured this out", they flesh it out more so we see the chain of custody of the leaked information and how a small piece of clerical ineptitude (accidentally including Dedra in communications) led to Jung getting his hands on it and passing it along to Luthen

its not even the full plans leaked to the rebels either. Daedra puts together that Krennic is building the death star, but Jung mentions that he didn't see everything, there was too much. He knew it was a weapon, uses Khyber crystals from Jedda, kalkite from Ghorman for panel coating, the design was refined on Eadu, and Galen Erso was the lead designer.

its not really until Rogue One until they finally realize its a moon sized planet killer.

It is pretty funny to think about it in universe though, the Emperor and a tiny inner circle keep it a pretty good secret for over a decade. But its destroyed within days of the Rebels figuring it out.

Then for an insanely bizarre reason the Emperor decides to build a second one, that is blown up before its even fully built out. It still can be blown up by a few good shots in the core which now apparently has a million giant tunnels leading to it. Lando fires a few shots at a core reactor and the entire thing blows up. That seems an even worse design than the first one! The only big design change is that they put a force field generated from the nearby planet to protect it from starship assaults, but then I wonder how the fuck would the Death Star move around the galaxy? It can't tow Endor around. Without Endor's force field anyone could fly in and blow it up.

Then the worst of all, in RoS we learn the Emperor afterwards has been building a fleet of 50,000 starships each with a mini death star cannon on it on Exogul, but those are all destroyed within 2 hours by a rag tag group of randos because all the ships share autopilot or something?

Seriously the Emperor hires the absolute worst engineers in the galaxy. If the rebels did absolutely nothing I'm pretty sure every imperial superweapon would basically start accidently fragging friendly ships and self destruct from power overload.

As Spronk said, Dedra just serves as a secondary/confirmation source - Galen sends the pilot and message to Saw on his own, but that both Luthen and Saw independently align on the details (such as Galen being involved) make the intel plausible.

This shit is all meant for kids. This is why it all just does not make any logical sense. Its like Indiana Jones adventure set in space. Its ewoks, the space teddy bears, taking out a whole legion of imp troops. If you want a good SW story read some of the good books. This was never meant to be an adult drama.

Its just too bad they dont know who their real fans of the SW universe are. The kids from the 70s-80s which are now adults and want some good adult themed SW shit. Todays kids dont give fuck all about SW. And I would know because I have 2 boys which never ever gave a shit about SW like we all did when we were kids. And trust me I tried, lol.

Tarkin's whole plot line is that the superweapon tech didn't exist before and it wasn't tested practically until Jedha. He thinks Krennic is going to humiliate himself and that's why the Emperor or Vader did not bother to show up for its completion. But upon seeing the result Tarkin realizes what they have, immediately takes command, and starts laying the security leaks at Krennic's feet to steal the achievement.

Galen fled in 17 BBY after learning he wasn't working on an energy program and it was for a weapon. Work stalled until he was forcibly rerecruited in 13 BBY and at the end of Andor S1 we see the status of the Death Star in 5 BBY where the entire station is already built but the weapons array is incomplete. The Empire already had a functional moon-sized space station sitting around for years while R&D was trying to make the weapon a reality. Why high commanders would become impatient with Krennic makes total sense, why other officials would start pushing their own projects during that time also fits in.

But once it works and the tech is proven? Yeah, go nuts build another. The actual hull / space station was obviously the 'easier' part to do but that wasn't finished in the 4 years before ROTJ. The Genosians were wiped out for betrayal not because of secrecy so I can understand why the Ewoks weren't simply annihilated, but still... space teddy bears.

I was under the impression based on the route the Falcon took to the Death Star II core taht when it was done the Erso intentional design flaw was fixed and it couldnt really be blown up. The Emperor was arrogant and relied on the fact the shield protecting it seemed impenetrable like the one on Skariff while he picked off the flagships.

But like yea the Exogal fleet was really really dumb lol.

Gilroy has really opened up how much Rogue One was doomed before they hired him to fix it. He called the film a corpse when he arrived and did what he could, and I think he did a damn good job with it as Malakriss shows with the timeline and motivations. I woulda loved to see that film as its own arc or a D+ only movie instead of Andor S3 with only Gilroy creating all of it.

Cassian and Bix literally have an argument about this exact thing when they're holed up in the saferoom on Coruscant early in the season. It's implied that Cassian killed a young, innocent soldier to protect the mission they were on. Cassian justifies it to Bix and to himself by saying he was an imperial and thus a threat. But it shows he was already on the path of killing innocent people to protect the rebellion. He also shot and killed an unarmed rebel that was blocking his way into the tie fighter at the end of the first arc. In fact, in the very first scene in the first season, he executes at man in cold blood on his knees begging for his life.
It doesn't come out of nowhere

but the second death star would lose the Ewok force field if it traveled to another star system to threaten/blow up other rebelling systems, and would be vulnerable to falcon core runs from a populated planet. It doesn't really matter how many star destroyers you have, if 10,000 incels from Planet Anime attacked at least one would get through. Lando didn't even need the force or anything to blow up the death star 2, just a few laser shots.

none of this is serious of course, its knights with laser swords fighting so who gives a fuck but its just kinda fun to point out how actually goofy the Emperor's plans were and its amazing the Empire lasted even 20 years.

then of course the shitty sequel trilogy shows the New Republic lasted only 20 years itself, the First Order lasted barely a year or two, Palpatine "returned" only for like... 3 days?... these guys are really shitty at running things lol

the second death star was unfinished. Have to imagine the Endor shield was just to protect it until it could be completed, when it would have it's own shields/armor that isn't tied to the planet.

See, what you are missing here is the AI revolution. With Erso dead, they needed a new death star, but had no-one to design it, so the Emperor trained an AI model on Erso's work on the original death star, and it faithfully copied the critical vulnerabilities as being a required component. Bigger death star requires more vulnerability tunnels obviously.

Given it did such a great job with the second death star (it was almost finished in 1/10th the time of the first one) and the massive cost savings of not having any human engineers involved, it was the obvious choice for the secret fleet, built by AI and bots with no human supervision !

Sure they all got blown up, but think of the savings !

ok just started watching S2 and goddamn was the first arc fucking rough. Heard nothing but good things following this arc so I powered through it.

On Ep 4 now and it once again jumps forward 1 year later.....And this show ends right before Rogue One, right? So I imagine every arc going to have that 1 year later jump? makes sense.

At what 350 mil per season, thank fucking god the jews in control of the money cut this shit down to 2 seasons from the planned 5.

Could you imagine and entire fucking season being about the fucking undocumented farm workers and Cassian putzing around with the fucking band of bandits from the snow white remake?

Those first 3 episodes, that was the best of the best of what Season 2 was going to be, condensed down into 3 episodes and I along with half the internet almost wrote the entire season off because of it.

I'm sure once I start getting into the final couple of arcs I'll have wished that they had been full seasons but they never would have happened if that trash in Arc 1 was stretched out into an entire season. A whole fucking episode would have been the mon mothra rave dance party

First three are pure world building. On second watch they are a lot lot better, but everyhitng pays off from them.

Andor's time with the merry band of tards was not world building. I feel like they could have done something better with Andor if the plot wasn't ready for him yet.

having a hard time thinking of a single thing that happened in ep 1-3 as world building or necessary.

Anything that can be covered in an opening text scroll doesn't need 3 shitty episodes and 75 million to cover.

I stand ready to be corrected once I finish the season but I doubt anything from those episodes pay off, it was fluff filler bullshit
